Just thought it might be useful to report on my experience of weight uprating.

I have a new Burstner 7.5m 3500KG motorhome with a large garage and am carrying a motor scooter and 2 bikes in addition to the usual stuff so as I have C1 entitlement on my license I thought I might aswell get it uprated. Not had it weighed but the suggested payload is about 350KG.

I had basic air assist fitted at £650. Already on 16 inch alloys and Michelin Camper tyres.

Sent all this info and more (DVLA details, weight plates, photos etc) off to https://www.vanweightengineering.com/services and they completed all the paperwork, supplied me with a new weight plate, filled out all the forms for me to send to DVLA and uprated me to 4350KG.

Really pleased with the service - very quick turnaround and very professional. At £150 a lot cheaper than SV Tech which seems to be the other main reccomendation on here.

Why not put a review in the reviews section as it will then be there for all to see in the future as this thread will be off the front page fairly quickly🤔👍😊

Out of interest, how long did it take after sending the paperwork to DVLA to get your new V5?
Cheers

Thanks for this info.
Just so I understand the main details are you already had the air suspension which allows you to "uprate" and they just did the paper work excersize for you. Or do you have to change the wheels aswell.

Im thinking of similar on mne ?
thanks in advance

I had the air fitted the air suspension fitted (just simple rear assist) before contacting them. The van already had 16 inch alloy wheels as standard so no change needed there. So bar the air suspension - yes they do the 'paperwork'

Whoops - didn't realise there was a review section. Will do.

Our Elddis accordo (Boxer chassis) is rated at 3.3 tonnes. Which seems a bit of an odd weight to me.

Does anyone know if it could be uprated to 3.5t?

That is a fantastic job for only £150. It'll almost certainly dent SV Techs monopoly too.

What's on your little silver plate Richard, I.e. the front and rear axle weights.

In theory that should be OK. The only way it'll work in reality is if you can get the weight distributed correctly over the axles.

That said, if you're already close to your rear axle weight in your current guise then air assist plus the correctly rated tyres (and wheels where neceasry) should easily do the trick.

If it was uprated by 200kg then, would that mean an extra allowed load of 100kg per axle?

Why doesn't the bottom 2 axle figures add up to the top figure 🤔

Hi Richard, the best thing to do is to weigh the van first (in full touring mode) to establish just what weights are already pressed on the axles.

Your rear axle in standard form has a 1.9T allowance, according to your plate, so if you weigh your vehicle and you were to find that your rear weight (in full touring guise) is only 1,700kg but your total van weight is 3,300kg then you could upgrade to 3.5T and make use of the spare 200kg tolerance of the rear axle without any modifications, assuming that your tyre loading rate is suitable.

However, if you were to weigh your vehicle now and find that you were already on 1,900kg for the rear then you would need to add air assist if you had plans to add any extra weight to the rear beyond what you're carrying now.

The first action point is to weigh the van.

All the best,

Andrew

To allow you flexibility in how you load the vehicle.

The axle weights show that the van ‘could’ safely be loaded to 3.650Kg (1900 + 1750) without any physical modifications.

Van Weight Engineering did the same for me, very quick and professional, Dee is also really helpful and will assist before even sending him the paperwork,

Wish I could say the same for DVSA, I got my V5C back last week, it took them 9 weeks to return it and that was after days of trying to contact them to find out what was happening

Same feedback. VWE turned around my request in 48 hours. 8 weeks later I’m still waiting for my V5C coming back from the DVLA.

Enquired at 4pm on Thursday paperwork received from Dee first thing on Saturday and in the post to DVLA that morning. Only 2 1/2 weeks into the wait to get V5 back.

Yes it can. & they also do a 3,1T, 3.2T, 3,4 t as well. Think they must be cheaper to buy. Speciality of spanish & Italian manufacturers it used to be.

Mine is a 3.3T but with 2100kg rear axle & 1850 front

As others have said gives you a good leeway when loading for the average white van ma.n

Another thumbs up for Van Weight Engineering here.
Contacted them via email and got all paperwork to send to DVLA the next day via email. Upgraded my globecar from 3500 to 4500, with no modifications required (it's on the maxi chassis).
The new vin plate arrived within 4 days (metal with sticky backing, very good quality) and the V5 arrived back from DVLA this week. All sorted within 4 weeks from start to finish.
Correspondence with Dee and Claire at Van Weight Engineering is almost instant. A truly fantastic experience and excellent value for money 👍

Having a similar experience so far.
Emailed the enquiry form yesterday afternoon and had a reply an hour later. Confirming I can go from 4500 to 5000kg on the Burstner as already have air suspension and 121 rated tyres.
Made payment today and just waiting on paperwork etc 👍

Agree, S V Tech did an Autotrail for me years ago and good service. Often chat with them at the shows.
This really being a paperwork exercise it was down to cash .. £150 all in vs £230 plus vat...
