Hi. Have just upgraded the weight of our MoHo via SVTech, from 3500 to 3700 (the max. without any alterations). This obviously now puts it into the PHGV tax class (if that still exists) from PLG. Do I just send the amended V5 up to the DVLA & they will change the tax class automatically, or will I have to send a V70 as well (application to change tax)? That seems to be for goods vehicles over 3500. The last van I had, it was all done by the dealer when we bought it. Thanks everybody.

Write a letter dvla stateing the change of taxation class section x on V5, revenue weight (V) was 3500 now 3700kg this also applies to section F1 max permissable mass now 3700kg. Enclose copies of any relevant letters and certificates from sva. A v70 tax refund form is required even if you are not claiming any tax back, and the V5.
Take several copies of your V5 so you can return them with the mistakes made by the dvla.
When V5 is returned check it thoroughly that all sections have been changed.
It should typically take 5 weeks but some of us have had it drag on for 4 months.
You need to hand hold and lead them through the change, they are not as professional and proficient as the passport service.good luck.

Took more tha 10 mins

I did as Lenny said. Sv tech where very efficient and supplied me with all the information required to inform DVLA of all changes. Now waiting for altered V5 to come back, so not holding my breath. As mentioned on here more than once it can take months

Is it possible to take it to Swansea in person, would that speed things up?
Its a long way for most, even myself, but if it gets done quicker, maybe I could make a short holiday out of it with a trip to south wales thrown in?

Thanks all. Having now found all the paperwork that originally came with the weight plate, it all becomes clear!. Interestingly enough, the GTM has also increased from 5500 to 5700. I would have thought that the extra 200kg on the GVM would have come off the GTM. Every day is a school day!

Yes but nothing will happen any quicker& that is if they don't mislay it due to the fact they don't usually get anything delivered like that.

You should have received paperwork from SVTech which says:

Whilst they should automatically amend the tax and send you any refund due, it might be better to complete and enclose the V70 to ensure it is done (you're changing from more expensive class to a cheaper class so you'll actually get a pro-rata refund of the £100 difference for the complete months you've paid for).

I sent my v5 along with the document from SV Tech via Royal Mail recorded delivery £1,50ish on Monday, when I checked the RM tracker on Tuesday my letter had been received and signed for.

I'll let you know how long the DVLA element of the entire process took as soon as I receive the new v5.
