My friends have just bought a 5 year old Chausson 610 Flash. It's their first MH. They'll be travelling as four adults and two dogs. Does anyone know what weight they'll have available to them, please? I've read before that manufacturers hide the true weight availability and I'd like to be able to give them the correct information, so they don't go above what they should. I'm not experienced enough to be able to advise them myself, so any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you so much.

The only way they will be able to tell accurately is to put it over a weighbridge to get the actual weights.
They can then use these to calculate the remaining payload and how it needs to be distributed over the axles.

In addition, when it gets taken to the weighbridge, it should be taken empty, with nothing in it other than a full tank of fuel and the driver.
Assuming the driver weighs a paltry 75kgs he/she will be able to work out what is left of the 510kgs he/she has left of the 510kgs to share between the other three passengers, two dogs, their clothing, (the people, not the dogs) food, essential 'stuff' ie chairs etc.

In other words, Not much.

Thank you so much for this. I'm assuming there's a post before yours but I can't see it. 510kg doesn't seem a right lot for the number of people, dogs, water, fuel, gas, tv, etc! We travel very light (2 people, one small dog and not much stuff) but my friend's situation is different. I'd hate for them to be overweight and have to deal with the potential consequences. I'll definitely be stressing the importance of payload to them!! Thank you again :)

Maybe they'll be lucky and it will be one of them's birthday! The helium filled balloons will help!(y)

Paltry I weight 70 on a good day 72 on a bad day!🤣🤣🤣

Looks like it's 3500kg gross.
Good luck getting that below 3500kg with four adults and their belongings onboard.
I agree with four adults it’s going to be a struggle🤔

I must admit , currently waiting for delivery of a new 630 and even with just me and wife a little concerned about payload. Having said that I am sure I am over the top with my current MH (a Dethleffs) - all the things we would like to take are so heavy......... in particular 2 electric bikes and a Kampa 260 inflatable awning!

From what I can recollect before a the EU got us involved with them the weight limit for a normal driving licence was 4500KGS. hence the standard being 3500 kgs, which as most M/H drivers know from experience leaves very little payload There have been whispers about trying to revert to that as part of all the reforms taking place on legislation now we are out of their grasp. However as we know in the UK the Government never misses a chance to squeeze every last penny out of us so I dont think it will happen anytime soon!

Whilst I agree with your general sentiment, could I point out that, at a stroke, should Gov. increase the MAM of a motor vehicle that could be driven by a person without C1, all those of us currently using a plus 3500kgs would have to pay a VEL of £250+ (don't know what the current rate is for sub 3500kgs motorhomes) rather than the £170(ish) we pay now.

Fair point however now you have raised that point they will probably go ahead and revert to the old standard is it will benefit them financially!

This weight thing is so daft. As someone has already asked, what happens when we have to move to electric M/Hs and the batteries themselves will weigh about 1000kg????? Who picked 3500. And why? Seems so random to me.

3500 was introduced to bring us in line with europe before that it was 7.5 ton once you had a full car licence
my vehicle history started mini anglia van ford D series lorry
