WD40 Not a good choice unless you know what you are doing with it.

WD40 is not a good spray to use in your motorhome. It is not a lubricant, can gum up locks and damage plastics. WD40 attracts dust and dirt and is also a de-greaser. User PTFE spray for hinges, curtain rails etc and graphite powder or spray for locks. Do not use WD40 on rubber seals or polycarbonate.

WD40 is only mentioned in passing there is no headline topic regarding its suitability, certainly none that I could find. Lots of users see it as the best of all liquids for a multitude of uses. It is if you know why you are using it, how to use it properly and what not to use it on.

There are, and thats part of the problem. Pick the right one and there is no problem.

I'm referring to the original brand WD40. I'm merely pointing out that innocently using original formula WD40 around your motorhome will do more harm than good.

Yes, but the OP did not make that very clear. I use both WD40 Lithium and the dry lubricant - for different purposes, obviously, plus a load of different brands

I am the poster of the OP. When people say WD40 it is generally the original formula as that is what it is known as. Yes they make other products and they have their own names but the generic original WD40 is only known as WD40 hence my title and the description of the product and its uses.

WD-40 stands for Water Displacement, 40th formula. That's the name straight out of the lab book used by the chemist who developed the product. The first company to use WD-40 Multi-Use Product commercially was Convair, an aerospace contractor, to protect the outer skin of the Atlas Missile from rust and corrosion.

Crikey, I’m 70 next year and used it for, well what seems forever, use it on everything, and always thought what a brilliant job it does, in fact thought it contained some sort of magical properties, regardless, never too old to learn, thanks for the heads up.

It certainly does have some useful properties. It’s important to know that you cannot use it everywhere.

How could I not make it clear. It’s WD40 that’s the product name. I did not mention WD40 Electronic spray or WD40 PTFE spray or WD40 degreaser to name a few. How can I make it any clearer than calling a product by its product name WD40.

For internal lubrication Aldi furniture polish. Cheap, works and smells nicer.
 
WD40 yes the original one before anyone says anything, is a big no, no with nylon it makes it swell.
Many Motorhome door hinges with nylon inserts have been ruined with it, also electric steps, the bushes are nylon.

I have made the very mistake you are highlighting, 🙁 but when I bought a silicone variant I chose not to buy WD40 because IMO the cans look far too similar
 
Are the ptfe sprays powder then?
