go to any electrical wholesaler/retailer and ask for a 'stuffing' gland.

see in link...pick the correct size or it wont work.

the glands in my post are 100% waterproof at high water pressure...jet wash etc...IP68 rating.
but the threads must be made waterproof where they enter the box.

Lunarman

Agree with Lunarman :thumb:

This is the better option, once cable is installed the box can be filled with silicone sealer or sikaflex .. the cable is also laying flat on the roof rather than at 90deg ..

They are also used with sat systems cables

If you want a truly water proof gland then look to the marine market. There is one that I have used many times and it good enough to survive an underwater experience and is used commercially and in the leisure market. It is quite a while since I last done any marine work and I have forgotten the source, I will come back a little later with the info.

Terry, there is another way to get your cables into the van. If you have a ladder up to the roof than its possible to run your cable/s down the ladder, it save drilling into the roof and and be added to at a later date if you want to.

Apologies if you are already aware of this, it wasn't what you asked, but thought it worth mentioning ..

When deciding on a cable run, try to keep it as short as possible, the longer it is the heavier the cable has to be to keep voltage drop to a minimum .. use this calculator to see what size of cable required ..

http://www.solar-wind.co.uk/cable-sizing-DC-cables.html

Using the wrong size cable ie too small, will reduce the panel voltage at the battery terminals and give poor charging..
