I saw that these sort of water consumption tracking devices are often used on barges etc. Has anyone seen anything similar that could track total water usage for a Motorhome? There are numerous devices for tracking for tracking electrical power usage from habitation batteries but very few solutions for water usage. Just curious what options may exist.

I know how much my tank holds and I know how often I fill it.

you can buy a small meter that measures the flow through a hose pipe

Just interesting to understand how much water is consumed and only carry as much is required to save weight.

Put a water meter on the outlet pipe from the tank.

Weight saving, is that for fuel economy.
If it is the saving in fuel would be minimum.

I know. My gauge is NEVER correct so I never know when about to run out. It would help me to know how much I really have used.

I struggle in my own so only fill up when necessary. . it is a big chore for me as stored in farm .

TheBig1 Thanks for the info. Meter ordered - will be interesting to figure out how much water we can actually load from when drained.

Only put what you need for that day - if you are going to a site with water (or travelling to France)- Zero.
Wilding? then just over half a tank is plenty for two shower with enough left over for two or three days usage. Find some more water when you want another shower. :Eeek: :Eeek:

I’m interested why you don’t travel full ?

I know we use 35-40 Lt a day we both love our morning shower so a full tank lasts at least 4 days. Good enough for us and we always travel with a full tank.

I just can't bring myself to carry the equivalent of a 15 stone passenger when its not needed.
I like to travel and with the minimum of weight/clutter.
I pump the tyres up regularly and only carry only what is absolutely necessary - not even a spare wheel.
I travelled from Conwy to Sheffield today and the average mpg was 37.8 - in my 3.5 tonne 2.3 Ducato --- and as I was going home - there was very little water left in the tank.

I’m not criticising just wondering.

Out of interest have you checked fuel consumption with a full tank on a similar journey.

I'm not sure if its correct but it is a reliable gauge. I go to France twice a year through the tunnel. So that's M1 - M25 - M20 for about 300 miles. Average mpg is always between 37 and 38.. The trip home last year with mega roadwork's on the M20 & M1 it reached 40 mpg. If you throw in a few hills it will drop to the low 30's

I find air resistance has the biggest effect on mpg , IE headwinds or high speeds , when travelling at 45-50 I get 26mpg where’s at 65-70 it returns 21mpg ,If my 5 ton MH fully loaded (1ton more) as opposed to empty it’s only 1mpg of a difference
