It's probably due to the source if your data. To be foolproof you need a data card that is UK registered. We're currently in France too and we use our BT phones, on a Roam Like Home contract, to tether the Firestick to and can watch all UK TV anywhere (watching the Tour de France on ITV4 every evening) As a reserve we also have a Motorhome WiFi installation with a couple of 3 data cards also UK registered which work just as well.

How are you getting your data?

We use a Motorhome Wi-Fi setup with a VPN on the Firestick and can view all channels.

On the assumption that you're watching (or was watching) UK TV through just a firestick and you have sufficient data (though I don't think that would show as the message error you quote) - it is most likely an issue with being outside of the 'proper' area for UK broadcasting.
Some people overcome this by using a VPN and setting that to a UK location.....🤔

your first step is to go online and read reviews etc of the different VPN's (Virtual Private Network) available, make sure the vpn will work with whatever you have/want to have/use.

i use surfshark (VPN) and never had an issue in France with firestick for viewing UK programmes throughout France, however son in law has sky go and it wont work with surfshark - i understand that some TV channels are blocking or considering blocking the use of a VPN to view their channels - but it hasnt stopped us, we simply set it to a UK connection and watch what we want.

We do use a sat dish aswell (to complicate matters further), though the further south or east you go, the weaker the signal is, so you need to be able to access some UK programmes through a different satellite than Astra 28.2

(i assume it wont be long before you get someone advising not to watch any UK TV as youre on holiday ....)

NordVPN and ExpressVPN are the market leaders and will give you a trial for a month.

I have been thinking about installing Nord... how do i install it on my Mifi
You tend to load it on your phone, firestick or tv - up to 5 devices at a time - which has never hindered me or my sons (2 of whom live abroad). You can load it on routers which appears to depend on your router although this appears overkill. There may be occasions when one person wants to be at home and another abroad. I cannot get it working on our router or Samsung TV at home but a 4k fire stick was £20 last week so we have one for home and one permanently in the van to save us swapping over and app settings move from one stick to the other seamlessly.

We have surfshark on firesticks loaded with what we need at home (X 2), in the motorhome and in our static in france, plus at least one spare firestick ( plus also on my phone and tablet), all on one subscription.
