Watch Motorhomes Get Crash-Tested With Worrying Results

2 options
1 Don’t wear a seat belt and hope to exit via the windscreen
2 Wear a crash helmet and body armour and hope the debris doesn’t kill you

Was gonna say buy a PVC but that Ducato dashboard didn't look good on impact.

Not sure of the narrative or acceleration forces but from what I see, for the first test:

- airbags did what they are meant to do to lessen the initial impact forces and prevent contact with the dash etc.
- there remains a survivable space.
- everyone remained constrained.
- the rear facing child is the one I would be most worried about; the driver/seat rebounds back into them.

Overall, I thought the first test was reassuring! The second test not!

That table!

Perfect guillotine!

Totally amazed how that big one fell apart.
What was it?

I have a lot of experience post crash, the worst thing you can have is being ejected from the vehicle. It always implies massive force and never ends well. Wear the seat belt.

The second worse thing is crashing with so much force that the safety cage collapses in the crash and crushes you, this is fairly rare and is reserved for the worst impacts.

Above all else, wear the seatbelt and drive to arrive. :)

All too real on the roads today.

many years ago i was shown baileys test crash photos ,in the first the dinette seat went through the floor, evidently on alkos advice there were no outriggers on the chassis. The fridge also came forward and decapitated the passengers and driver The next test included the outriggers and a wire bond on the fridge, the fridge stayed put but the welds on the steel post thats integral to the seat parted allowing the seat to come apart. both test were at 30 mph which i assume is the standard speed for these tests.at 60mph is assume you wouldnt know anything about it

The driver's head at 2:40. That's going to smart.
To be honest, that was what I expected. An A class isn't go to fare well in an impact with any sort of energy, a PVC is a bit like a van (so generally poor compared to a modern car) but without a bulkhead behind the cabin area to stop what you are carrying from joining you.
And they are heavy, so lots of momentum involved.

Best to avoid being in a crash, really!

I thought the reason MH seats had higher integrated headrests was there was more structure in the seats to protect you from flying debris

Without making light of a potential crash.
The choice we have really is, don't drive a motorhome or as has been mentioned above, drive to arrive.
Crap happens unfortunately but driving defencibly minimises your risk as much as you can.

Could be worse, you could be mini metro & scraping the passengers off the parcel shelf.....

Vans, MoHo's SUV's normally have issues with crash tests, however...

I'm not going to watch that in case it's bad , I absolutely love my smart car. £30 tax, £150 insurance , 50mpg and you really can park it anywhere

I've got my fingers in my ears, la la la la la

Crash testing is nothing new...

From memory, the Land Rover Defender (not the new hairdressers one) has the highest real world safety record. As researched by the TRRL in an analysis of actual accidents.

Picture no 5 of post 13 is that a horse through the cab? 🤔😮
