Warning if heading north on M6

Caused by a crash between lorries and subsequent fire. No serious injuries

Our daughter and her partner were in the jam for many hours yesterday on the way home - they got home in the early hours rather than the 8pm they had expected. All traffic stuck on the north bound carriageway was turned round and had to go back south to the Carlisle North (A7) exit. Cars could divert via A7 to Longtown and then up to Gretna but that route isn't suitable for larger HGVs.

As the west coast route is motorway many people prefer west coast but I am guessing the east coast route will be busier than usual this morning.

Son's just travelled down the A7 from Longtown to Carlisle, normally a 20 minute journey, took him one and a half hours today ! :(

I'm surprised they aren't diverting them from Gretna down the service road past the Metal Bridge and back out again at Carlisle, I believe the accident was at Todhills so this stretch of road would by-pass it and only have you off the M6 for about 10 miles if that.
