We have landline broadband and mobiles with virgin I'm on a fix until June Mrs. Ex is out of contact with her mobile so we may change her deal but keep the broadband for a while

It’s called inflation, all the providers will increase by CPI/RPI these companies have to pay staff all of whom will want a cost of living rise as a minimum. Food is going up in price and energy costs so why would the broadband / land line and mobiles not be affected ?

We have been with Virgin Media since its inception, it was known round here as NTLworld.com, and its prices have risen each year.
I give them a call every so often, especially when I have been cold called from Sky or BT and have a comparison price for the same broadband speed & package as we currently have to see what they can offer.
I ask for the retentions team, and sure enough the price is re-tweaked. The last time I did that was out of sheer frustration, as the broadband service would just go off, without any notice, one time it did this for 3/4 days.
They apologised saying that major essential maintenance works were being carried out, but when I asked for a credit against my monthly account for inconvenience, I didn't get far, but then having sent test messages down my line, they did offer me a free upgraded router, with a larger Tivo storage capacity and stronger wi-fi range.(y)

I did ask them to disconnect my landline as we dont use it, but was, and still am confused as to why doing this would prove to be more expensive for the overall package of landline, broadband & medium TV.

I am amazed at how many VG & Sky customers pay so much for sports packages especially as they have been divided up into separate entities, F1 is a prime example, I will just stick with the catch up results on C4.

We do have Amazon Prime though, which is decent VFM for us as we use it well.
More & more people will no doubt go down the MI-FI route if their phone signals are strong enough, and they source a good data only sim deal, we are near a forest of tall pine trees, but phone signal strength is improving over time, so it may be a future option.
Happy New Year to all.

Its called quad play, Phone, Broadband, Mobile and TV

MiFi maybe ok for some but not as solid as copper or fibre even 5G there will be haves and have nots it also depends on how people use it. In the bad old days of voice calls there were pops and crackles, then as the network was fully digitised the call quality was better. Somehow with VOIP and mobile calls there is acceptance of drop outs and poor quality voice in exchange for convenience.

So it will be interesting but my guess is once people use Fibre and have huge bandwidth the difference again will be noticed between fibre and MiFi.

On such networks voice will be free data will be free (charging for the amount used has virtually disappeared). So providers such as virgin bt sky etc etc will have to make their money from line rental and content. Amazon prime and others look cheap but they donot have a network to provide be it cellular, copper or fibre.

Is it really only by a £1.00 a week?
I'm amazed that people seem happy enough to pay up to £50 every month just for TV programs.
Totally agree with you, we do use Apple TV and down load the occasional film, Apple TV gives us all the apps for BBC, ITV Channel 5 etc. We do not subscribe to Apple TV Amazon Netflix Sky Curzon. as it would never end and cost a fortune.

If there is nothing to watch there is always the radio, a book, scrabble etc.
