Our first preference is the euro tunnel then the ferry to or in our case from Calais, a long crossing on a ferry is not for us. Bob.

France is a motorhomers dream.
Great roads, light traffic and thousands of places to stop overnight, many of them free.
Other countries are available.

I’m new to this forum too but have spent the last 8 years on the continent for 4 months a year on average covering 39k miles so I have a lot of experience I could assist with. I drove an 8m RHD UK coach built Motorhome that weighed over the magic 3.5t which affects many things re tolls, speed restrictions etc so it’s best to try & be as specific as you can given you don’t have a van as yet and you will no doubt get plenty of help from many, including myself. I have lots of stories I have written under the same username in the Caravan & Motorhome Club forum which may help, but all the photos have been lost by them so I don’t write now. They may help but are mainly about new places we have visited rather than the journey but there is one on there specifically about the very different way of accessing the Portuguese toll system. We know Spain very well, having lived there too for a while, and have spent time in Portugal once.
