Applies equally to cars and motorhome , something I learnt many years ago but came in handy today when I refuelled for the second time in12 months 🤔

pulled on to forecourt and couldn’t remember which side the filler was

all cars as far as I know and I presume vans, have this display by the fuel gauge

I read this tip a few weeks ago somewhere. I'd always wondered why there was an arrow next to the pump and just thought it was part of some weird graphic design concept.

Ours just uses the SatNav nagging female voice to shout 'Naw, the other side, you idiot' across the forecourt ... And then I say to the Cashier, 'How much?!' in a tone of disbelief; and the cashier replies smugly, 'Not only do you not know which side the tank is on, you can't read the price display ..' And I pay with gritted teeth [dropped the toothpaste that morning], vowing never to use that Fuel Station again; until the next time ...

David you obviously have posh vehicles😂. Neither my car or van have such a symbol!
If you dont have symbol..Just go by which way the needle points. If dial is on left side its left, if on right side its right. If its up the top your full so dont need filling :)

At most modern fuel stations and supermarkets the filler hose will reach both sides if you get it wrong.BUSBY.

I remember the first Bette Midler interview with Michael Parkinson where Bette told the story of 2 southern state ladies talking over the garden wall. 'Say, Wilma,' says the first lady, how come it never rains when you hang out your laundry?'
'Well, Thelma,' replies Wilma,I pull back the duvet and look down at Will. If it's hanging to the right, the sun's gonna shine, and if it's hanging to the left, it's gonna rain ...'
'But, Wilma,' replies Thelma, 'What happens when it;'s standing straight up?'
'On those days,' replies Wilma, 'Who the hell wants to do the laundry?' :ROFLMAO:

Just checked, and neither of my motorbikes have this feature.
I'll just have to get some stickers made up.

It is not 100% true about the arrow - Toyota Celica Gen7 has the original Japanese dash and points tr wrong way. They added an extra bulb and symbol later to try and get you to look at it, instead of the default image!

It used to be the case the filler was on the side the nozzle on the pump is displayed on ( before graphical led displays )

Still learning since 2010
I had to check this out on my vehicles and the results are:
09 reg Transit has an arrow pointing to the correct side.
10 reg Freelander has an arrow pointing to the correct side
12 reg Fiat based MH has no arrow and the fuel nozzle is on the wrong side.
