We've carried a rolling pin in the van for thousands of miles and it's never ever been used (I just use a glass for rolling pastry)

And a 5 tonne winch. (Well actually it was used once about 12 years ago to help someone else out)

Any unused treasures eating into your payload and taking up space? 😃

I always carry loads of tools, axle stands, torque wrench, electrical bits and pieces, compressor, spare charger etc. Turned out I couldn't undo a wheel nut the other day - evidently I need a breaker bar! Oh and the towing pin won't screw into the thread in the front bumper! A job for the garage I think!

I lent the towing pin & eye to a frenchman in spain last year and it worked for him - his was too short:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

We carry lots of tools and spare with us, which have got us and others out of a pickle on several occasions, including two days ago when a rocker switch on one of the interior spotlights fell apart, but not to worry as I had several in the spare box to replace it. 👍😊

Every long trip away, we make a list of everything we hadn’t used and remove it from the motorhome when we get home. We have got rid of loads of stuff and so far we have not missed anything we have taken out. We find it very therapeutic.
Ooooh I couldn't do that I'm a horder and a worrier so having lots of tools and spares gives some peace of mind!

I took the levelling ramps out once in 2019 as hadn't used them for a while, next site we went on I needed them and had to scavenge some wooden logs to level up... SO, I put them back in and haven't used them since 😂

I used to carry a full set of the encyclopedia Britannica but Rose knows everything so I got rid of it.
I now have spare payload to carry my Harley and my e type jag in the garage.🤣🤣.

Cheers Cris 🍻

We have a PVC so it makes it difficult to hoard. We’ve still made mistakes though, I think everyone has. For us now it’s more about finding space saving versions of things that are good.

We are hopeless at DIY so have a small toolbox only as we wouldn’t know what to do with the contents of a big one.

I carry a 5ton towing strap!! Bought for a previous van and never used. However I know if I take it out I’ll end up needing it!!

In the early days, I reduced the size of the tool box as I would never see Terry. He would be off fixing stuff. Now, after nearly 10yrs, I've added half of the workshop back to the van :ROFLMAO:

Terry and Bill (Ambilkate ) came to our rescue many years ago at the Upton upon Severn Blues festival when we had a water leak in our 1st IH, we were panic stricken, had no idea where to start. Running round like headless chickens.

‘I’ve always remembered the tip about drying everything off and then putting a bit of loo roll down” . Came in handy in our 2nd IH in the New Forest with a similar thing !

Rather cryptic? 😆

After running overweight on a police weight bridge, I decided to down scale my immense tool kit. Honestly, I could change a clutch on the side of the road I have so many tools.

So downscaled from 4 axle stands to just 2 and then filled it up with blocks of wood that turned out to be a lifesaver.

I put mine in for last weekend's trip to a steep site in Derbyshire. The only place I've used them in 10 years. Ended up on a pitch at the bottom of the site, didn't use the ramps. Took them out again when I got home. 😆

I've got a small van so I tend to be fairly ruthless at clearing out stuff. However, when I recently almost emptied it when it went for some major work, it's surprising what didn't go back in. That said, I still have a folding colander which I can't remember when I last used, and various other kitchen utensils which I don't think I've ever used! Oh, and I've got two portable electric hobs, so probably should get rid of one of them. One is a solid hotplate, the other an induction hob. My 'favourite saucepan' (oh lordy, did I actually just say that...!) doesn't work on induction. Maybe I need a new small pan which does. My larger ones do.

I also carry a heavy duty towing strap. On the basis that if I DID have to be pulled out of any mud etc, I'd rather have a strap I trust than some of the bits of baler string type 'ropes' I've seen being used. Never used it for my own van (yet), but did use it to tow out a Crafter which had got bogged down in some soft ground alongside the hard standing my van was on.

My 'bits' box is limited as I have zero mechanical skills, but it does contain spare bulbs, a set of wheel bolts which fit the spare wheel, Gorilla Tape(!), a small flat head screwdriver (in case I should need to pop off the cover over the hole for the towing eye), gloves, cable ties of the normal and reusable varieties, a length of rope (which has been handy for impromptu washing line use), a jam funnel which is helpful when decanting stuff into containers, cloths, a plastic jug and a short length of blue hose.

Abacist try turning the tow eye the other way might be left hand threaded.
