Been getting away since 2008
A friend of mine had a solar install on his Ducato PVC at a workshop in Preston.
The installer thought it’d be a good idea to strip back the insulation on the battery cables and wrap the solar wires around. He did use black insulation tape though so probably thought it’d be fine.
We have rectified the bodge by removing the seat (4 bolts) and crimped 2 ring terminals on which is how it should have been done in the first place.

I'm not sure what the site rules are but if your allowed i think you should name the company so everyone else knows to avoid them
I agree, but not sure of the rules myself.

The best place is the review section. But it is not for second hand or heresay reviews.

We had a review left here once before about a bad wiring setup discovered by a new owner who subsequently left a review of the fitter. Turned out the bad wiring was the original converter and not the fitter at all.

The company advertises on here.
Just a thought here but before you name the company and write a review, ask your friend to contact the company and make them aware of this thread . I would hope any honest and decent company would make sure that issue is resolved very quickly ! 👍🏻

To start with the wires are undersized, probably used thin walled cable which is sized differently the mm sq includes the insulation.
More importantly connecting like that is a very high fire risk, no way could you get a decent connection and it would be prone to arcing.

Tombola is saying you need to be sure of these things before we start naming companies etc . Incorrect allegations can damage a company’s reputation beyond repair in some instances 👍🏻
And a company may well wish to know what sort of job one of their highly paid technicians has done. Companies run Companies, that is why they employ so called skilled people who should know better.

I mean if all the info is true and 100% correct, that you are sure you have been given correct info etc.
its easy to misunderstand smythes of preston with smiths of preston !!!
It is most definitely 110% true and the installer is the only one who has worked on the van. At the same time as the solar was installed a maxxfan was also fitted. The van had to go back because it wasn’t sealed correctly and leaked.

Lenny is right in saying it was a fire risk.
I think my friend will email the company the photos we took and see what he has to say.
As mentioned, the gauge of the wires seem too small and that needs addressing as well.

Have they fitted many other solar systems, or even any , no qualified electrician would do that if he wanted to keep his job

First port of call for me would be trading standards because that falls well short of a professional installation

It makes you wonder how many vans are driving round wired up like that , vibrating , going over speed bumps

You can only hope it was meant to be temporary to test the panel was working then soldered and heat shrink applied and he forgot to do it

Well I think ive figured out what company it is , just search for Preston and you’ll match the answer with the fun advertiser.

I have offered to sort all the wiring out on the van and my mate is happy for me to do it but he wants a report on the install first.
Any advice on where it should go? Who is the go to company for Solar?

Didn’t take me long and quite frankly surprised

He really needs to get them to fix it , if there's warranty and they don't fix it that's their get out clause box ticked.
