Unexpected nipple in viewing area

Now that I have your attention, I will explain. Having just agreed a sale of my 2017 van, I was emptying it out and making sure nothing was broken, cracked, wobbly etc (Unlike me).
And for the first time in 30 months, I noticed a nipple, that's all I can think to call it, sticking out from the bottom of the offside wing mirror. No corresponding appendage on the nearside mirror. Sorry, no pics.
Anyone know what it is?

Yes, a sensor for the external temperature display on the dash.

Throw a T shirt over it, spray with water and see if it looks the same.

I thought dash temp display was taken from engine management thingy ?
From a nipple sounds much more appealing

Seeing as it’s on the bottom of the mirror housing, it is unlikely to be affected by direct sunlight.
It’s there to measure the ambient air temperature.

Well, that depends if your perspective is from the front or the back.

If the same had been on the other mirror housing, expect I would have thought similar.
