Hi all again,

My other question here was about looking for a company in South Wales that install underslung gas tanks now my question here is…….

Has anyone fitted a gas self install kit themselves, how did they find it and did you get it gas checked afterwards to be safe.

I’ve seen loads of videos but I like to check first before jumping in the frying pan.

Thanks.

Never fitted an underslung hab gas tank but fitted a few autogas systems back in the day. The installation is quite easy but you need to do plenty of research and ask lots of questions to make sure everything is safe. There are lots of things that aren't immediately obvious so if you don't have a tame experienced fitter to ask then be really careful

Hence why I’m asking the question.

Thanks bud.

We fitted ours to a self-build back in 2014 without any major issues - but only after extensive research and reaching a level of confidence in what we needed to do. Understanding where drop outs are required and what high level ventilation is needed is a key part of this. We created our own steel mounting cradle as the straps on offer did not impress! After filling and checking it was basically functional, we booked a safety check with an LPG certified engineer.

When it reached 10 years old, we elected to have the replacement installed by Autogas as we didn’t feel like crawling around under the van and managing the weight. Our excuse was being ten years older….

I bought the parts I require from Gas-it.
Sprayed the tank with a rubberised anti-stone chip coating, as the original paint coating would not have lasted five minute under the MH.
I did not like the idea of the tank hanging from under our MH, so I made a pair of mounting brackets from 6mm steel bar to fit the tank to the underside of our MH that the tank and it's mounting frame sits on.
I check all the unions with a gas leak solution, no leaks. (y)

Looks the same as mine.

I made S/S straps on mine and protected it with an aluminium cover .

I fitted a 25 LTE tank that had the brackets already welded on the tank but as I wanted to mount it longitudinally I had to make two spacers used two 50 X 25 box section bolted through floor and spacer to tank brackets ,the rest is common sense and complying with regulations

Still looking, I can get a full kit for my van plus the gas pipe is already in place (along with the current manifold) from the rear gas point for a bottle so I can use that to feed the van.

I can’t go through the floor that’s all installed so looking for a system where I can use a non drilling bracket less hassle but can’t find a company that does them, lost the link duh!.

Ahhhh found it Rhino Installs they say “cradles are bolted through the chassis side so offer an easy fitting on pre converted motor homes where a floor mounting would not be possible allowing the tank to lift straight in”.

But £995.00 compared to others way cheaper.

Side note….. LPG Shop has this kit plus I’ve added the non drilling bracket for ease of fitting, any discount codes about?
