Hi
Has anyone been able to use a sat dish to get UK channels in the south of Spain? or uses mifi and if so can you stream using your tv using a vin, we were told you could only use a vin on pc, laptop or mobile phone.
We need a system to use in Europe but mostly Spain, Portugal and France and cannot find any info on what is best. Are you able to use a Spanish data sim so you can use as much data as you like with no cap.

Thank you in advance.

For satellite television you will need at least a 2.5mt dish and all HD equipment as they are all mostly broadcastin in HD.

For television via broadband you will need a broadband supply. Depending on how much television you want to watch will mean you need more data per month. For large amounts of data a local broadband/WiFi package is best but you will need a VPN (Virtual Private Network) that fools the UK providers that you are in the UK. Both are a cost.
Using a local SIM you will also need a VPN. If you use an UK SIM you do not need a VPN but data usage could be a problem with capping costs as the UK is no longer in the EU.
If you search the threads for best data Sims for the EU there are plenty of info.

A lot of sims use a UK IP address even when abroad so can stream Iplayer etc just the same as at home through phone screen sharing or using a Firestick type device but will obviously eat up your data @ about 1gb per hour of HD Tv. If you use a "foreign" sim then you will need a VPN to pretend you are in the UK.
A 80cm dish pointing at Intelsat 27.5 West and a modified sat receiver will get you the main BBC 1, 2, 3, 4 + BBC radio, Itv, C4, C5 etc on the service used for Freeview backup, this will work all over Spain and Portugal people report. Search Icecrypt receiver (now discontinued but others are available) and this will give you some info. Some people claim if you watch this service you are "hacking it", these are sometimes the same people who are streaming it through a VPN on a Firestick...
You will often see UK vans with a dish pointing in a different direction to all the others in France and Spain... to my knowledge no body has been issued with a "cease and desist" order or had the van door kicked in by the Rossers whilst watching Antiques Roadshow or Top Gear....

You can use an 85cm sat dish and log onto Intelsat 901 technically illegal but thousands do it.
You will need and LNB and a sat receiver that can work at the higher frequencies 901 uses.
A lot of information online and on the forum about it.

Many thanks, a bit more confident on what we need now.

Since Brexit Vodaphone Uk cap our 100gb sim to 25gb pm abroad, out of plan data is eye wateringly expensive! It all depends how you live your holidays, we listen to more radio than watch Tv when away and with a dish I don't even have to think about ongoing costs or swopping for local sims etc. We have loads of payload left and tbh a dish is only about 15kg so a fractional amount of the overall amount. Different folks different strokes and all that..

Here in Javea a 1.4m dish is plenty big enough, we use a Humax HDR and record anything we want to watch, 😉 if it's not on Netflix or Prime. 😁
We have fast fibre 5g but will stick with the dish while everything is working fine.
We watch some things in the motorhome using data, but we are not addicted to TV. 😁 Bob.
