Hi Guys

Coming over from Germany on the 4th June for 6 days, will be doing a small tour south and south east and would like some recommendations for overnight stops....7m MH, hard standing if possible for wheelchair access, I have not lived in the UK for 20 years and the last MH trip was in 2012, so my knowledge is rusty to say the least.

Itinery: Dover, Bournemouth, Clevedon ( WSM), Blenheim Palace, Highclere Castle, Portsmouth, Farnham, Hampton Court, Cambridge, Ipswich, Dover.

Destinations are set around availability of friends and places my wife wants to see ( I have no say in this).

Would it be wise to join the Caravan and MH club for site access? or not worth the effort?

Thanks and stay safe

Rob

Not sure about Clevedon itself, but Uphill Wharf (WSM) gets good reviews. Easy flat walk along Uphill beach (about 3 or 4 Km’s) to get to Weston town itself.

Never stayed there myself as I live in the town. (y)

That’s going to be hard to fit all that in, in 6 days. 🤷‍♂️

There are several app that may assist like camper contact, search for sites, park 4 night.
Might be more useful than membership to just one club as they also do list campsites as well as free stops, pub stays etc.
Download the free versions and have a look.

Cool thanks, I think I remember where that is ( I used to live in Portishead ), its a full itinery but its the way we usually travel, our summer trips normally cover 5-6,000 km in 3 weeks as we hop from place to place.............

That's useful, I will check those out along with our usual stellplatz app

(y) Also if you use facebook, pub stopovers are becoming popular. Hard standing car parks, free to stay on most as long as you have drinks or a meal in the pub.

That's an option too, we usually eat out as we go, no facebook though, social media is not my thing....

June 4 is part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and MAY be the start of school half-term holidays. I always look up the counties where I am staying to see if there are going to be lots of families around, although places like Bournemouth, WSM will attract visitors from further away.

It may be sensible to see if there is availability for campsites, although you have called this thread "stopovers" which implies a less formal arrangement.

Yes Uphill campsite is really nice I have stayed on a number of occasions (fairly local for us).

Its very popular so would be better to book well in advance.

For ipswich , we use Burnt Farm in witnesham to visit family that side of town. Hard standing and peaceful or try sorrel horse at barham.

before joining any of the 'clubs' you need to ensure they will accept 1 night bookings.

With your itinerary i don't really know how you are going to see much as the planned journey could take 6 days due to the usual congested roads.

It would not be my first choice of travel dates but my wife still works and I am tied by the dates she gives me......and my philosophy is that there is always a spot somewhere so we keep hopping until we can stop, its just us so no pets or kids to take into account.
