OK, I'm confused.....

So, looking online, it appears you need to have the UK sticker on your number plate or the larger white UK sticker on your rear (bodywork)
However, most we see on the road have the larger UK sticker rather than just the number plate, which I'd have thought would be the other way around as a preference?

So I'm just wanting to check I am reading the rules correctly or not?

The large UK sticker is accepted in more countries than the UK+Flag sticker on the number plate.

Most of Europe is fine with the number plate option.

Thank you

We will probably just keep the large UK sticker in the boot and just leave the number plate ones on

Been to Europe many times in the last 10 years without either a GB or UK sticker.....

before that I can't remember and didn't care......

Tell me why it matters. ..

Pulling motorhomes over as they exit the automatic pay peage lanes on the A28 today, Didn't hang around long enough to find out what they were looking for, any excuse for a stop. The UK plate, angle Mort, over 3.5t using a tag for under 3.5, no idea

You don’t need one to drive in the UK and once you get into the EU the UK laws are void so cannot be enforced.
You have to look and see what the EU laws are for number plates or country identification….

I visited my local leisure vehicle dealer last week and saw a whole row of GB stickers at £3.99 a pack. I mentioned it to one of the receptionists who said “yes, you need them when you go abroad”!

I told her that you now need UK stickers and she asked why. The other receptionist said that it’s because we left the EU. I couldn’t be bothered to tell her the truth 😉

We've just used a sticker on our original number plate so assume that's OK?

Unless travelling to.. 'I think' Spain and Malta... that's fine.

Just to add, last time I travelled to Europe I saw many UK registered cars with no country ID at all.

Have 2 brand spankers if anyone wants them (white UK stickers) as won't be travelling to Spain. Happy to post FOC if you pm me your address
Assume most have them but if you need spare etc, let me know

The reason we’re not in GB land anymore is because Northern Ireland are in the U.K. but are not in GB. Great Britain is Englandshire, Walesshire and Scotlandshire. U.K. covers the four.

That works for me - I live in England so it’s a GB sticker should be on my Van. Actually I do have a small magnetic UK one and no body pulled me over in Spain last week for not having a larger oval one.

Has anyone ever been stopped for anything unless for a real traffic offence?

Probably - no

In over 40 years driving to France and Spain I have NEVER been asked to show anything but my passport at a border.

Never shown ins docs, V5 or driving licence .......... worried about a sticker? - no

Well, each to their own but for me, I want to respect other country's laws, as we'd expect others to respect ours, and for the sake of a £2 sticker, I think I'll comply and do what's right 😀
