hi all i m sure this has been on before but please bear with me. i have a 2005 rapido 986m that rattles and vibrates on poor roads .mercedes say springs/ shocks are ok. a friend said he had the same problem, he replaced the tyres and all is well. what is the best tyres for a soft ride . mine has kumo portran kc 53 that i.ve found are commercial tyres hence for ride thanks.

Checking that you have the correct tyre pressures would be a start. You can usually run at lower pressures than the manufacturer states. If you buy a recognised brand of tyre, you can get your MH weighed, and contact the tyre manufacturer with individual axle weights. They will then advise the correct pressure.

hi i have to say i have not heard of them i was hoping for replys of the more well known motorhome tyres. but thanks anyway

thanks revolver. i already lowered the pressures to 55 psi front and 60 psi on the rears i think the rubber is to hard that is causing the vibration

If lowering the tyre pressures hasn't helped then it is most likely the tyres, being commercial. Lots of advice about different brands on here - just do a search for Tyres.

But remember a motorhome will not ride the same as a passenger car, and being over 10 years old you have to expect some rattles and bangs, although the Merc chassis (it is a Merc isn't it?) is better than the Fiat of the same vintage.

I think the consensus is that 'van' tyres actually give a better ride than 'camper' tyres. Camper tyres have extra stiff sidewalls so they don't deform when the van is left standing for long periods.

There was a recent thread where someone suggested that older tyres get less flexible over time. That could be true. We recently changed from continental vanco camper tyres to maxxis vantyres and they're a lot better despite being a lot cheaper

Sort of related, I stopped a lot of rattling by taking the front off the gas fire and bending some of the fins apart as they were touching the main structure and rattling as we drove. Worth a look maybe?

Fitted semi air and we can now hear the radio.

Fitted Hankook Vantra LT RA18 to our MH to replace the crap Continental Vanco Camper tyres.
The Continental's were as hard as nails, the Hankook's are a much more comfortable ride and less road noise.

I've just had four Toyo Observe winter tyres fitted on recommendations from Lenny HB and others and I'm very pleased with the improvement in ride and comfort. A quick calculation of mpg showed no deterioration but I'll check that again once more miles covered.

Very pleased with the Toyo Observe van, had them on the van since last September, a very good ride. We also have full air suspension.

Fitted these to mine and staggered by the improvements. On road, off road, including very wet grass, floods and ride comfort

I fitted Toyo's as they were the only winter tyre I could find that weren't directional makes life easy if you want to swap them around.
