HI All
Had a read through some tyre posts and just as confused as I was at the start. Some folk don't seem to like the Michelin Agilis Camping which is what's on my van now.
The van is a Hymer tramp 15 plate and I just found out the tyres are dated 2013 so were two yrs old when the van was registered and sold new it looks like. The tyres are showing signs of slight cracking on the sidewalls now but I would be replacing them at that age anyhow.

What to go for though?
I initially thought, fit the same but not so sure. The previous owner was happy with them despite them being a summer tyre as I've also just found out. I thought it would make more sense to fit all season?
Any recommendations

Having sworn by Continental and Michelin for many years unfortunately that is not the case now, due to ride quality and premature cracking. I fingers crossed changed to Hankook. These have proved a much better compromise, they last longer and ride is improved.
I am sure others will have alternative tyre's they like, all are valid for sure. However I also feel sure a large number if open minded will have moved away from the major brands due to similar experiences to mine.

Cheers Clipgate, A local fitter suggested continental as that's what he has fitted to his vans but there's a difference in weight between his vans and a motorhome don't you think?
I'm new to all this and must admit I'm a bit nervous driving the van right now with what I know to be eight yr old tyres and cracking on side walls (advisory on MOT last year) wondering why the people who done the MOT didn't mention the tyres were eight yrs old!

My Hymer PVC is fitted with Continental vancontact 4season
235 r16 119/121 which I believe is a 'camper tyre' with increased sidewall strength.Needed an additional tyre to be used as a spare, purchased on line from Camskill who were excellent.
From the tyre reviews I saw the new 4contact scores very highly.
I've no problems with them, they are a premium tyre at a premium price.

They are not described as or claimed to be a ‘camper tyre’ by Continental but in my opinion are excellent. Their max pressure is 75psi and perform very well, we bought a set because Continental recommended them over their own camper version, vancocamper.

Excellent choice. I changed to these 4 years ago and realised how the top brand quality has gone forever. One of my customers purchases large vans 15 at a time. He won't accept Michelin tyres and specifies Hankook.

Hi Hettie's crew.
Not sure what the criteria is to qualify as a 'Camper tyre'
My local tyre fitter refered to them as a camper tyre presumably because of the load rating?
Strange that Continental recommend them over Vanocamper.

They are a Commercial Vehicle tyre, hence the C rating. Michelin use the term ‘Camping’ and Continental use ‘Camper’ It appears to be a marketing ploy because as you say it’s all really about load rating.
Continental recommended the 4Season to me because of the size/rating I needed, which wasn’t covered by their ‘Camper’

I've gone for hankook vantra, better load rating than the camper tyres. Michelin and continental certainly aren't the quality tyre they once were. we've also stopped fitting them to our trucks and trailers, splitting side walls - uneven wear,, not worth the extra money.

I'll have a look at both the vancontact 4 season and Camskill. Many thanks for the recommendation

From what I've learnt with camper van tyres the load rating is the critical factor, making sure the tyre is strong enough to carry the axle weight limits Involved.
The tyres on my vehicle have a load rating of 119/121 which is higher than many standard Sprinter vans.
A commercial tyre with increase load rating.
I was told this was because camper/ motorhome carry heavy weights for prolonged periods of time?

I got rid of the crap Michelin camps horrible ride poor grip, 3 years on them was enough suffering. Fitted Toyo Observe Van, only done 1200 miles on them, well impressed very nice ride, grip level way above the Michelins.

That is for 215/70/15 from my local tyre fitter in Peterborough

I’m sure I read another member got a similar deal on the 225
I paid £79 each fitted for 225/70 R15. Very pleased with them

As they are a winter tyre probably mid to late 2018. Bought mine last September from Tyre Leader they were wk48 2019 fine by me as they will probably be worn out in 3 to 4 years.

Yes so I gather from reading through all the posts here so I will be using the load rating as my guide. cheers

Bit confused but why fit a winter tyre when using all year?

And where to get them fitted or do you order them delivered and get fitted somewhere?

Better grip on grass & gravel, softer ride, modern winter tyres are a different breed to old ones, the performance doesn't deteriorate anything like they used to in hot weather.

I got a local mobile guy to fit them on my drive.
