Hi when you come to 70years old and your on medication for type2 diabetes can you still renew your licence to drive a 3850kg motorhome or dos it automatically mean you will fail the medical
duffie

This might help.

Or alternatively you could take a drive to Barnard Castle which our Government has now approved as a proven method of determining whether your fit and able to drive.

if you can make it there and back without hitting or killing another road user your ok, Simples.

Always entirely depends on exactly which mediation you're on as to how it affects your licence.

If it's the best way of checking eyesight then I did suggest it might be a good way of insulin dependent diabetics to check their blood glucose, which we normally have to do with a purpose built machine called a Blood Glucose Monitor, cos it saves having to go to that trouble. Unfortunately they don't seem to have changed the Law to provide for that though.

NB I was joking!!!!!

Hi I am type 2 just done my C1 no problem had it back in 7 days
Blimey how did you manage that, we have just applied for our C1's at 70. Wife sent hers in March posted mine 3 weeks ago, nothing yet.

Posted feb got back 7 days no problem but I did go to my own doctor and opticians

Well even though insulin users now can't get the C1, those of us who had Grandmother/father rights to it, could get it renewed at that time, I didn't so can't by now, we only had so long. However, our C1 was only valid for a year so it was subject to annual review - not sure whether it's a medical every year, or just complete a medical form yourself like renewing our 3 year licences always have been.

The main other thing than insulin they care about is the sulfonureas - eg Gliclazide, sine there are BG testing requirements when driving, because it's a hypoglycaemic agent.

… and the other thing is, whilst you still have an in force driving licence, you can still drive until they - or a doctor! - officially informs you that you can't. OTOH at the moment I am not certain what happens if you have sent all the renewal requirements off to Swansea but they haven't yet responded and your licence expires before they do. Are you legal or not?

If nothing has changed since the last time they asked then maybe you are. If eg eyesight has deteriorated then maybe you aren't.
