My pixelbook laptop needs a usb type-C high power charger and when I plug the cigar lighter charger that I have in the van it isn't enough to keep it well charged. I could have the laptop switched off and charging all night and it would maybe charge it 30%.

I bought one of these to fix the problem but I don't know why because you can clearly see that it has the round laptop type chargers and not the type-C.

Would there be a type-C fitting that I could use on this or should I just buy one of these:

This says it will charge android type-C at 1.5A. How would that 1.5A be comparing to whatever the cigar lighter thing that I currently use is putting out?

When you say it's working well, does the mac book take a charge even when watching a video or such? Or does it just slow down the rate of battery consumption?

anything less than 3amps at 5v will be useless charging a top end phone or tablet

At 42w its pretty much the same power output as the 240v charger - I use a MacBook not a Pro

I have a PD charger in my car seems to charge my S10 pretty quickly. 3amps at 5v is less than 1.5A at 12v so no strain on the 12v socket which is normally rated at 10A

Works an absolute treat

Muckle thanks ?

I had a similar problem with my phone once but I knew the charger was up to me job. Turned out the cable was cheap and nasty. Found these on ebay to be very good and come in different lengths ?

Most laptops take a high current to charge, My Dell XPS needs 130watts to charge properly.
I have also looked into the usb C route if i want to take the laptop with me when off grid.
I've got the same multy voltage adapter from Maplins brilliant for charging all the small gadgets that need more than a usb 5v and have different plug types.

USB C chargers for higher power gadgets are smart and negotiate the amps and voltage. The USB C standard allows all the way up to 20v. A dumb 5v USB charger isn't going to cut it.

The charger I bought (see above) charges my laptop fine. It does show a fair bit of power consumption on the control panel though so I don't know how long I'd be happy keeping it plugged in without giving the hab batteries a good chance to recharge.
