If all goes to plan we will be sailing overnight from Plymouth to Roscoff today.

Tomorrow will be spent chilling at an aire near Roscoff then the next day we will start to cross France, probably taking three or four days. We are aiming for the Vosges region first, somewhere between Strasbourg and Mulhouse then we will meander south through the Jura and then on to the Savoie and Haute Savoie. Depending on the weather we might carry on to Provence but that is too far in the future to worry about. :)

The aim of the trip is to find some interesting cheeses, which these regions are renowned for.

The route across France isn't obvious on this map but from Roscoff, which is the knobbly bit sticking up between Brest and Lannion, we will go via Le Mans, Orléans and Troyes.

Updates to follow!

Things are looking positive. Our ferry, the Amorique, is afloat and in-bound for Plymouth. :)

Assuming it doesn't collide with one of the floating fountain pen nibs.

Knowing you like sources and cheese.
Mouthe might be on your agenda. After Alsace and before Savoie if you miss Switzerland.
I left a review on S4S specifically about the fromagerie.
Source of le Doubs nearby in the town somewhere as well.

Enjoy your Banon cheese if you get down there.

We visited the Banon cheese festival a few years ago and the place is worth another visit. Thanks for the other suggestions. :)

We’ll be watching with interest DBK, on our way in a couple of weeks to the Alsace and Vosges…….Can you find the best/nicest/cheap/free Aires please? 😉

We're also planning on doing a very similar tour in a few weeks' time. I'm watching with interest.👍

Is mask wearing on board compulsory? Restrictions generally in France have been removed
We've had an email saying they are to be worn on board - we shall see!

Edit: Just got on board and virtually no one is wearing masks, including the crew.

Sounds like you may be going near Beaufort in Haute Savoie. They do a lovely nutty tomme
The cheese book I have lists lots of tommes.

Unlike the well known pair made from plasticine we have deliberately not brought any crackers with us. We will be eating our cheese French style. :)

When we crossed 2 weeks ago from Poole we did not wear one but would say 60% did, the French as usual only on their mouth or the barman just hanging from one ear🤣🤣🤣

Now in San Sebastian Spain and on the bus an funicular railway you have to wear them, but in the Tapas bars you can be nose to nose without one, does not make any sense.

When we returned from from Calais on Saturday almost no-one wore them...maybe a couple of staff.

We love the haute savoie. It is beautiful up around La Clusaz and St Jean de Sixt , there is a goat farm with cheese up at lac Les confin with a car park at the end of the road where we have stayed in the van.

One of our favourite spots is up at Manigod at the ski station Col de Merdassier , we park in front of an old farm where you can buy cheese and fresh milk.

Which reminds me of another fromagerie on the dead end road to sixt fer a cheval where the scenery is possibly the most stunning in the whole of France.
A walk through a horseshoe shaped gorge 500 metres deep surrounded by waterfalls dropping that distance. This time of year probably only about 50 of them and you will still be able to walk under snow.
Something like out of game of thrones!

Try the Beaufort d'ete it's better than the normal Beaufort which is pretty good too but comes at a significant price!

What! No chutney? (the French don't eat it because they didn't invent it)
