Ok, let’s all be honest in this thread, who has had concerns whether they had bought the right Motorhome for them, includes after deposit paid and collection / ownership

And if so how did you deal / overcome the issue, was it something you hid from your partner or a joint concern?

I read somewhere that it takes 3 motorhomes until you get the right one, we had our first one which we just sold for 9 years and it was perfect for our needs, maybe we were just lucky, now trying to replicate that with a new one but life changes (kids leave home, people die etc) as do designs. We have been fixated with a rear lounge as we like the space in our last one, but there is a little niggle there somewhere that perhaps we should have tried something different, I guess like some people have an affair because they think they may have missed out on something that may be out there, I’m boring and a more steady person who doesn’t like too much change, but maybe just maybe do you think I should have been adventurous and had a fling with a fixed bed?

When we part ex'd our Miller it really was a spur of the moment thing..
Went to Peterborough show just for the social side of it ( partying with Funsters ), and was bored on Saturday afternoon.
Walked past the vans as had no intention of swapping, then #1 son said 'there you go dad, thats what you want'
I had mentioned going bigger a few times and quite fancied a tag... Went in and had a look, done the deal an hour later.
Drove up north to collect it, and loved it from the moment I started driving it home
Never had buyers remorse for a moment...
I have suffered from it in the past, but with a ham radio rig...Less than a grand but I worried about it for ages afterwards

I think the longer you have had something the harder it is to let go, maybe part of my problem is the old van was perfect for my needs but the law has forced us to sell it, I am watching over it for the new owner and have visited it in storage a couple of times to do measurements for him, when I see it I just think why did I sell it ?

Never had the slightest doubt about what is my first MH.

Bought a 6 years N&B Arto 10 years ago privately and even my OH who I joined 2 years later still likes it, except she cannot drive over 3.5t - note to self must push her to take the test in case I lose my C1 for medical reasons.

As for 3 MHs to get the right one, even if circumstances do not change, I have always thought that shows lack of research and foresight. Or lack of partners agreeing, or one not knowing enough about what they were buying.

We’re on our third vehicle in four years of MH ownership. We changed for matters unrelated to the layout.

The vehicle we now have suits us very well as it is left hand drive, rear wheel drive has a large payload and has large tanks which enables us to be off grid, etc, etc. As soon as we saw it we knew it fitted our needs exactly... no regrets or at all.

Love our encore 255 but the niggle is there for a garage and a double floor? maybe somewhere down the line a German type Moho will come our way?

Liked the previous one when I saw it at various shows, had it on a shortlist and it was the only one of the 4 that was right, took delivery of it and was fed up with it within a few weeks - sick to death of making the bed every night, having to move the dogs so I could get to the loo at night, what looked right wasn't right so I talked to Mark, he liked what we had and wouldn't have changed, but I did a bit more research, we went up to a dealer and saw our current Ayers Rock, 2 weeks later the deed was done and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!

Fixed bed at the back, garage underneath - we lost the small wardrobe (cupboard) and oven, but gained something which works for all 4 (us + dogs) of us. I haven't driven it yet, medical issues at the moment, but should be sorted in a couple of months.

with motorhomes, we have only had buyers remorse once. a brand new swift coachbuilt that was so badly put together that the roof skin rattled like thunder when the wind blew. that was sold back into the trade at a loss and replaced with a panel van conversion

as for the fixed bed, we got sick and tired of making up beds. our current van has a front lounge that sits 8. fixed bed at the rear over garage and electric drop down at front. could make up another huge bed from the lounge seats too if needed. the fixed rear bed in its own separate room makes it perfect if i want an afternoon lay down but leaves the lounge undisturbed for other occupants

We have (and always will have) our vintage VW type 2 but wanted something more comfortable, larger, suitable for longer trips (17mpg!) and suitable to use all year round. We wanted the luxury of a fixed bed and because we planned to use it in the winter, wanted a garage for bikes and wet gear.We put lots of thought into this, looked at a number of layouts and went for a 6.5m Burstner Nexxo with transverse bed over a garage. It certainly got us using it in the winder months but because that meant spending long evenings in the van and a growing family, we started longing for a rear lounge. Also found climbing over each other to use the loo annoying!

So after 2 years px to an AT Scout. Loads of storage, payload and a great rear lounge. Great vehicle in many respects except every year of our 6 year ownership we had issues with water ingress. We did start to find making up the massive rear bed a bit of a pain though.

Next stop (earlier this year) another Burstner with a lovely front lounge with drop down bed above for our 15 year old son, and island bed at the back for us. Great vehicle although the multiple levels are little annoying.

This will do us nicely for a good while but I think my perfect layout would be a rear lounge with drop down bed above and lounge/diner at the front (with or without another drop down)

Never any regrets, just acceptance that's it's always a compromise somewhere along the line

MMMMM...

We have had 8 vans in 20 years, everything from a PVC to an A class. Nearly all the changes except 2 have been due to changes in circumstances, either lifestyle or financial. We have had our current van for 5 years and it will be our last. Suits us almost perfectly but nothing in life is perfect.

ALL. Motorhomes / Caravans are a compromise. If you can accept that, you are more than Halfway there. Even my 34ft Pusher was a compromise!. I originally wanted a 38, with slideouts. But big as it was it would not have gone on the Front Yard at home. And I refuse to pay for storage.! In fact all my Motorhomes and Caravans, have been dictated by the (home) storage available!. We (I) rejected at least half a dozen Bungalows, before we bought this one. Then we lived on the driveway for nearly a year whilst I gutted it and refurbished to SWMBO`s liking!.

First brand new mh we bought.
Went to marquis tewkesbury did the deal.
Driving home in our 10yr old 16k my.
It suddenly hit me we had blown all our savings and a bit more on a van with a toilet and bed inside.
52 grand to go to the toilet in the corner of a Peugeot boxer.
Once we picked the 155 up though we knew it was worth it.

Thanks to all for your honesty, compromise seems to be the answer, you can only fit so much in a certain space, drop down beds are clever but if you are tall could annoy you over time due to height restrictions.

I guess it’s like when you are in a self service restaurant and you have your tray ready to pay then see what is on someone else's and have second thoughts thinking I wouldn’t mind a bit of that! but as you are next to pay in a queue you just accept you may have missed something and cocked up ? I guess it could also apply to seeing other people’s wives ?

This is my last day before I transfer a huge amount of money to the dealer tomorrow, I’m just going through emotions because I still have time to get out the line and have a bit of something else ?

went out to order a 4 berth PVC came home having bought a new 6 berth coachbuilt, best thing we ever did, loved it and was great for when we took all the grandkids away, but making up the rear lounge bed although it only took minutes got to be a pain and we really wanted to take a motorbike with us.
Few years on met bigtree at alcaniz changed bike from beemer to KTM and changed van to one with a garage. I miss the lounging and me and you space, and hate the upholstery, but 4/5 years on and no intention of changing.
Both need to apply for C1 as soon as we are home, John renewed his 3 years ago with a niggle, which was easily sorted, first time for me applying, result may mean a change of moho but we hope not.

We have a Laika, nuff said.
