I’m a newbie
Hi I am planning my first trip down to our boat in southern Spain .
Given that France Spain and our country allows travel we want to go in June .
I want to take a week to get down there a week on the boat then a week back .
I could book the whole trip with the caravan and motor home organisation which would be abta bonded but it will not give me much flexibility .
Is it easy in France and Spain to pick up sites on day 24hour notice ?
thanks in anticipation of your reply

Most French towns have 'Aire de Camping Car' which is an area that allows motorhome overnight parking and most have dump points for black and grey waste and also fresh water points. Some also have paid Electric Hook up and some are free.
Campsites in France will be open in June (at the moment) and these range from Municipal (run by the commune) and are usually good value for money and privately owned campsites which will have restaurants, swimming pools etc and charge accordingly.

France, at the moment, is struggling with vaccinations so we don't know what the situation will be like in June as to whether they will allow visitors from other countries (they are at the moment but that could change) as there is a rise covid cases in certain parts of france.

Just keep an eye on the News bulletins for updates.
Good luck.

Camper contact used to be a good app to search for Aires/places to stay over. Not sure they have sorted the gremlin niggles when it was updated last year though.

Go to search, tap in western route to Spain, Tonka. That's a good resource.

Done this a few times now, never had an issue, June should be fine as France/Spain hols are August, that said you will be fine, where in Spain are you off to?

Agree with the above but would also aim to arrive at chosen night halt mid afternoon at latest. That has usually worked for us over many years ( we use sites not aires) . So early start, early lunch and have alternatives if first choice is full (unlikely) or not suitable.

Nice, depending how you enter Spain there is a very nice campsite in Zaragoza right in the city just off M Way, stayed there lots and you can just turn up, supermarket and bars across the road, camping municipal zaragoza.
You should then get to sotogrande from there

June is normally a fairly quiet time in Spain, so booking places is unlikely to be necessary.

June is also a beautiful time to be in Spain. Greenery and flowers abound, before they are scorched by the summer sun.

The first mistake we made on our first ever motorhome trip over the channel was to book sites for the first few days. I was then expecting to have to phone up and book some more as we went round. It was September and all of them were nearly empty with no need to book anywhere. And then we found their Aires, camperstops, Stellplatz and Sostas (depending upon what country you are in).

We have never since booked any campsite on our European trips and tend to avoid them any way. We have never had any problems finding nice places to stop using the Camperstop app. .

Lots of sites and overnight stops available, subject to covid regs.More and more of the French Aires are converting to camper contact ones with a charge but they are usually good value for money.
I just thought with all the covid issues your 3 week trip was a little short but your circumstances may not allow longer.

You can change an Eurotunnel booking online at anytime up until 24 hours before original booking.

From Majorca Daily Bulletin today:

The Hotel Business Federation of Mallorca, or FEHM has criticised the Central Government's decision to extend travel restrictions from the UK to Spain until May 31.

The British Government will lift its ban on International travel to Spain on May 17.

A hotelier who held a meeting with Ambassador Hugh Elliott at the FEHM headquarters yesterday, said the Government "must correct the extension."

Your travel and /or breakdown insurance quite often have a booked return date as a condition of insurance. You can always move a Eurotunnel booking if you decide to extend your trip.

Very easy, both countries have what is called Aires which are dedicated stops for motorhomes.

There’s a nice free aire, in Jaca on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees. We always stop there. We’ve also stayed at the free Aire in Huesca.
