I have found this from Abacist and will be trying C&MC šŸ‘

Having been diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia I have struggled to get a competitive travel insurance policy.

I got a quote for >Ā£1300 for a 2 week trip to Cape Verde for myself and my better half.

Having hunted around I got a quote for an annual multi-trip policy for Europe, the best I could get was Ā£800 with Staysure which required full disclosure of all medical details. There were some poor reviews so I decided to check elsewhere.

The Caravan & Motorhome Club came up trumps with their Red Pennant Plus Cover for Europe for an annual premium of Ā£706 per annum for the 2 of us and our 10 year old motorhome.

There is specific cover for motorhome travel which Staysure did not have and the best bit was that the following were the only medical questions asked, taken from the policy document:-

Other than routine reviews is anyone awaiting any new treatment (including surgery), specialist referral, investigations or results of any tests?

Has anyone been discharged from any medical procedure
(admission or day case) within the last 3 months?

Other than routine checks, has anyone received any treatment (including medication) for any cancerous condition within the last 6 months except tamoxifen or similar (hormone treatment) in breast and prostate cancer?

Has anyone had any changes to their medication in the last 2 weeks? (this includes ceasing, commencing or changing dose)

If anyone is taking warfarin currently, are their INR levels (blood tests) being reviewed more often than every 4 weeks?

Currently, has anyone been prescribed any morphine, MST or fentanyl patches to be used at home?

Other than routine checks is anyone under referral or been
admitted to hospital in the last 12 months for any psychiatric
condition?

If the answer is ā€œNoā€ to ALL the questions shown above then full cover is available for your pre-existing medical condition(s) and there is no need to advise us of your pre-existing medical condition(s), provided you are healthy and fit to undertake your planned trip and you are not travelling against medical advice or with the intention of obtaining medical treatment or consultation abroad.

If the answer is ā€˜Yesā€™ to any of the questions above then you
must notify the Clubā€™s administration department.

On the basis that we plan 3 trips abroad with the motorhome and one for a package holiday by plane in the next 12 months I went for this policy as being comprehensive and good value.

Well that`s our 13th year & still loving it.
Our current insurers will now only offer me 35 days cover in one trip whilst abroad because I'm over 70yrs.
How stupid is that, they said older people tend not to travel as much so don't need it though a 69 yr old gets 66 days cover, as the song says, "What a difference a Day Makes".

Good look with the treatment, six years ago I opted for surgery now in hindsight wished I had gone the radiotherapy route. Up until five years clear it seemed like travel insurers were loading their policy quotes.

Yes, thank you
I have the Nationwide account and contacted their insurance company direct. I am covered for everything but the cancer/chemotherapy and no increase in the premium, it might be worth looking at that option

3 yearsā€¦.
I use these for my insurance and also got Mum and Dad insurance when they went on holidays.
My Dad had terminal cancer and when I sorted out his last holiday his insurance was a lot cheaper than Mum who I had to declare previous her heart attack. Cancer insurance does not seem to be overly expensive.

My husband has prostate cancer and we got cover with our Nationwide account for an extra Ā£75.
It has since moved to a small area in his bones and they along with many others we have contacted wonā€™t touch us now.
We have since contacted Insure Cancer 01252780190 who will definitely give us cover but they have said it will be a maximum of 30 days and expensive, we are going to get a quote next week

I am struggling with this, it would appear that the insurers donā€™t like it that my RT hasnā€™t started yet

Because of that they will insure me, but with no cover for prostate cancer and any spread or related conditions, but worse they also wonā€™t cover any pre existing conditions at all

Meaning my blood pressure meds, exclusions then include all heart and stroke related conditions

Pretty much everything not covered except broken bones šŸ¤”šŸ™„

Hi David

Jen says it all sounds pretty standard from her experience, once you are through treatment itā€™s different. Wishing you all the best with the treatment of course.

Is it worth not bothering at all then and just having no insurance, because if you do need to claim it will probably be refused anyway?

In fairness I have got a couple of quotes, all with similar exclusions for me , but for under Ā£200 we can get an annual policy with Bev fully covered and me effectively only covered for accidents, so might as well pay that and take a smallish risk. In reality I will not go abroad till post RT, so may just take a one trip policy for Bev who is going to Spain with friends next month, then go back to annual policies later this year

Interestingly we have to opt for region 2 in Europe to include Spain, all other close countries are covered in region 1 including Nordic countries

My preference was for RT based on an uncle who had complications , as it turned out the position and aggressiveness of my cancer meant the surgeon doesnā€™t want to remove it

Good morning,

I too have been through prostate cancer. Had mine removed back in Dec 22....
I travelled to Canada recently, and got a great deal for insurance with payingtoomuch.com.

Good luck with your therapy..

Two lots of Lymphoma and a wife with a dicky ticker resulted in us no longer being able to get any sort of annual policy, but the below company has looked after us for 4 years now on a single trip basis and will always offer helpful advice. Based in Essex, I think.

Iā€™d be tempted to go with my global health card. 5 years ago my I had a stroke in Spain and didnā€™t have insurance. Went straight to local hospital and got good treatment. My son came over to help hubby deal with driving and me as I was totally paralysed down the left. Britanny ferries were helpful but we had to wait for a disabled cabin. Tbf we have family in Spain. Insurance is so expensive Iā€™m becoming inclined to take a risk. Always get breakdown cover though.

Same here. Informed Nationwide insurers about my cancer diagnosis and treatment only change was that anything related to my cancer was not covered with no increase in premium.

But that is what insurance is for, isn't it? To cover the unexpected and unplanned. It does suck, but then I'm in the same situation re blood pressure needs plus.
