Yesterday I made a purchase of an Armitage side loading trailer . It has those horrible small wheels and tyres 480 /4.0 ,does anyone know what pressure to run them at ? . I did ring Armitage but they didn’t really know 🤷‍♂️So has any one a clue 👍

@HowardH
The tyres on our Hydratrail were marked with the maximum inflation pressure, are yours?

From memory we ran with the HT tyres at 32psi carrying a 125cc scooter, without any problems. Any harder than that and the trailer ride tended to be on the harsh side.

about 30 psi is the right pressure on the small tyres

They are max 60 psi it just seems a little high .

What are you hoping to carry?

Our 125cc scooter weighed in at about 110kgs wet.

At 32 psi we seemed to get the best ride. A heavier bike may need more, but 60 psi seems way on the top side to me. It would feel like running on steel rims. Just because it is the maximum inflation pressure doesn’t mean it should inflated to that, as you obviously realise.

I will be taking my Ducati Multistrada which weighs about 200 kgs so about on the max for the trailer 225 kgs so would like to make sure the tyres are right . You would think the trailer manufacturer would have an idea 🤷‍♂️

I have a 350kg trailer running on small tyres and that one is run at 30psi any more than that and the tyres are rock hard

Our Erdé trailer, bought from Halfords, has 400 x 10 tyres and we were recommended to run them at 36 psi for the 110kgs load. It runs very well at that. The trailer has a maximum carrying capacity of 225 kegs so 36psi makes sense.

PS

We changed from the Hydratrail when we bought a PVC and couldn’t open the rear doors while connected.
