I want to fit a tow bar mounted e bike rack for two bikes ,I have a auto trail motorhome with the spare wheel mounted on the rear does anyone use one of these racks & confirm that’ there is enough clearance for the rack to operate.
The tow bar is a witter approved detachable swan neck type, I would appreciate any advise on what make to buy, thanks in advance.

One thing to watch for is the maximum carrying weight as well, especially with electric bikes for instance

I have just bought a THULE 925 for my Autotrail, but i dont have the rear spare carrier on mine

I think most of the main suppliers have models to suit rear-spare MHs

Thanks for the reply cheshirecat 57 I am sure I am well within the weight limit as it’s a tag & I think the limit is over 100kg.
I am looking at the weatfalia bc60 just not sure if when the frame part is lifted into position it will hit the spare wheel cover.hopeing some funster is useing
This type of carrier and can confirm it works ok.

Sorry— I meant the weight of the bikes against the max capacity of the rack

Contact Thule and see if their Velo Compact plus a 9241 adaptor (designed for a 4x4 spare) works on a MH

I am trying to decide whether it will be just as easy to get a tow bar fitted to take a cycle rack for the e bikes or get a rack fitted to the rear wall. Any thoughts on the cost difference.

Depends on the age of your MH ( type approved ‘bar and all that)

Hi @panner . I have exactly the same set-up as you on a 2013 Apache 634. Like you, I had the same reservations re spare wheel, but eventually bought a Bosal 2 bike rack (sorry, can't remember the model number) at one of the shows. The guy brought it over to the van & we fitted it to check on clearance for the spare wheel cover. No problems, it was about 1 1/2 inches & solid as a rock. Capacity is 60 kgs so no worries with 2 e bikes.. I think it was around £250 ish, but will try to find the receipt. Hope this helps.

Thanks minivan,
I was also looking at bosal range so perhaps I will check them out .

Something else to consider. Notwithstanding the extra download, which should not exceed the "tongue" weight of the Tow-bar, Parts of the European Mainland stipulate you must have a "warning" device fitted on any overhang / extension, the bikes should not obscure the lights (or fit a trailer type board). And take a close look at the "small print" when booking ferries etc. Some will actually take the overhang into account!, and it can move you to a more expensive fare. The days when I took 32ft of R-V and almost 20ft of trailer, for just the cost of the vehicle, are long gone, i`m afraid!

Hi, I have a altera bike rack which we used for two electric bikes on the detachable tow bar on our Autotrail Delaware. We found it worked very well all over Europe and back.
We are selling due to having sold our bikes, it cost over £300 and is still like new. Selling for £200 Ono
Regards
Geoff
