the tour comes very close to us on Thursday, so we had a drive around the finish route today to find somewhere to park for the day. We saw lots of vans arriving at the aire at Mur de Bretagne including a few GB registered vans.
Anybody from here at Mur?

Make sure you don't write anything rude they have a team that follows you and will turn your comments into a butterfly

If I get you another free advert on Eurosport, do I get free membership next year?

See you at Malvern.

I went to Fougeres aire this morning. The police very nicely moved me on as the aire was now shut. When I enquired why? - Tour de France mate (btw I added that last word:D2). It should be back to normal on the 14th.(y)

The paved section is 21.7 km long, made up of 15 sections varying from 500m to 2700m .
They are expected at section 15 (reducing to section 1) at approx 13.50 and still have 109 km to the finish. The last section 1 is 8km from the finish.

Not sure what time you are Chunneling on Saturday but what every the time get there ASAP. IF YOU CAN GET ON TO THE PAVED AREA, suggest you find the first place you can squeeze into. Have a good time.

Thanks Colyboy!

Slight change of plan - one of the dogs was poorly and we had to delay our departure :(. She's been reviewed today and is much better so we are going with plan B and crossing tomorrow or Wednesday and heading straight down towards Carcassonne.

Incidentally, I had earmarked the corner onto the start of section 8 - just where Chris Froome came down  - instead we watched the whole stage on TV :D

We've been watching it on TV and were wondering how long the motorhomes stay at the side of the road. I know that on the prime mountain stages they have to get there days in advance, but what about the other stages?

We saw stage 6. We drove the final part of the route 4 days before the event and there were hundreds of motorhomes parked in aires, fields and sides of roads. We managed to get a space on the stage morning on a picnic area next to the route. I guess if you want to be at the start or finish, you need to get there well in advance.
We left about 9 pm, others were staying overnight, some left minutes after the bikes went past.

We are catching a midday train today Tuesday and as I said heading towards the Pyrenees . As I am replying to this message at just gone midnight. I see you are heading towards Carcasonne , later today if you want I can suggest the best vantage points, The Carcassonne stage is best watched on the last two mountains which are near the finish. The next day is a very short stage with several high mountains. This stage will be very fast and furious.. Colyboy

Jasz as Allan stated To get to the start/Finish areas you have to get there very early and prepared to walk miles, as there will be no parking for miles around. If you want to get on the very popular mountains and get a good spot you will need to be there about two days prior. Some vans will stay another night after the race has passed but a lot will try to jump the next stage so hoping to get a good spot the following day.

The day has finally arrived.
We have our plan planned and should see the women's race finish, then the men's race just after St Jean de Sixt, then the Caravan at the bottom of Col de Colombiere, then the men's race finish in Grand Bornand. We will need our best and fastest shoes on to complete all this!

We watched the finish village being built yesterday and enjoyed the great atmosphere in the town, whilst having a meal out with @Jenben. There is music blaring out from the finish area already. @Coolbeanz will also be joining us for this crazy dashing around day.

Hi Colyboy!

Out of interest, which route down are you taking?

Ideally we want to aim for a spot on the Millau stage on Sunday (maybe somewhere around St Rome de Tarn) and then move down to Carcassonne for the Tuesday stage. I doubt we will get as far as the end of the stage - we are not renowned for picking our feet up  - once in France we tend to go into super-relaxed mode! At least the rest day buys us some extra time - so you never know!!!

Wishing you a safe journey!

We had the most fantastic day yesterday and was treated to two nail bitting races. The forecast rain did not happen, thank goodness.

I am afraid I didn't take many photos as I was too busy trying to see certain riders go past.

Waiting for the finish of the women's race.

Fantastic stage today, great result for 'G', and Froome, would love to hear the Sky team radio when Thomas started his winning attack.

Never seen a stage quite like today, subtle tactics, too subtle for me to understand. Very exciting though.
