Well done Paul, you did it again. Hope you are having a great TDF (y)

We were going to go over on Sunday but the threat of wild fires at home is too close now. Fires are raging just an hour and a half away, with the hot weather heading this way. There would be 3 out of 7 houses in our hamlet occuppied if we went away, with one English holiday home empty and our Dutch neighbour going away on Sunday. Of the remaining 4 people, 2 are quite elderly, 1 is a lady on her own with a child and the other is a youngish man who's out at work all day. Our house is tucked away on its own and two empty ones are between us and the hamlet. So, I've decided to stay home in case any fires start and my hubby is going away on his own in the car. I know I can't fight the fires but I can move the remaining truck and MH and get precious things out of the way. I can also help the neighbours, if needed. We're surrounding by very dry farmland and woods and the temperatures are forecast at 42 degrees. I'm sad to miss the tour in the mountains but may catch some later on when the weather cools down.

This link says 9 out of 10 fires have a human cause. Very sad :(

When I was working and we were trying to educate people in fire safety we always started by asking the audience to name the three most common causes of fire.

After a while we would say “Men, women and children”.

How long before they ride past do you need to be in position?. Never seen the ride before and as we are heading to the Pyrenees for cooler weather I hope. Was thinking of possibly getting on the route in the mountains Lourdes to Hautacam there’s a good climb at least to slow them down a bit
Any tips appreciated.

Fragle To get that spot on Croix de Fer we were there 2 days before. Today from the aire we were on overnight,we left early (8.30) and found a place on today’s route for 3 vans! However it’s on the flat so not such a sought after place.
So in answer to your question it depends where you want to go.

Oh ok I’m hopeful of getting a spot on the climb so as it’s next Thursday I think I will possibly get there Monday and look around.
Thanks
