Topping up battery with Di water (1 Viewer)

on my x290 ducato the positive terminal assembly covers 2 of the battery topup holes. This requires removing the assembly from the +ve terminal. Should the full battery removal procedure be adopted to protect the ecus.

Just a quick one, is it a battery that you can top up?

Just that most batteries are sealed these days - it's quite some time since I've seen one on a vehicle, my tipping trailer has a one that needs topping up, but the battery is ancient!

I think they imagined doing that. You could cut a Gel battery in half and not spill any electrolyte
It's in the name.... Gel... There is no liquid electrolyte.

To be safe I would disconnect the negative first before removing the positive.

Leaving the negative on is asking for trouble.

If you have a spare battery you could use jump LEADS or suitable lengths of wire to the positive plate and a suitable earth then carefully remove the positive plate and top up the cells.
That would maintain a voltage so no problem with ECU.
You could even link to the hab battery in the absence of a spare battery.

as pappajohn says get another power source i.e. your car and put jump leads to the 2 points under the bonnet , then carefully disconnect the neg then poss make sure the pos of the battery touches nothing.
i used a jiffy envelope over it.

then none of your ecu's should get affected by any changes in voltage.

pappajohn Phill D i thought about jump leads but couldnt see how i could do it at the battery no space. Use the jump start points pure genius, thank you gents.

Yes mine does charge both , sb charged even when lb (lithium) is totaly disconnected.
Phill D am i right in thinking it doesn't really matter as the charge will now be diverted to the additional battery.

It does charge both in many cases, but if the have connected up as mentioned and insulated the cab battery terminals then you will have no issues.

Won't make any difference.
You are disconnecting starter battery but all connection are to another battery so the solar will continue as if to the starter battery.
