Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
One of these stinking ancient trains blew its stack in Glasgow today.
Just how many of these things run in & out of the UKs cities & how much do they affect air quality that our government tax us on?
Then add on old buses, the last time I was in London, the tourist buses like old AEC Routemasters & the like spewing smoke out surprised me.
Add that to aircraft flying the Benidorm & Ibiza brigade means its not difficult to see where the problems really lie?
See news report then video below.
Am I just becoming cynical, lets face it, its the public who pay for the repairs to increasing Euro levels being levied on our motorhomes & cars, all of this includes VAT.

Thoughts invited?

Well there's a turn up. Let's have a competition to see what people can justifiably moan about and see how quickly Boris or Donald gets blamed.
This is pretty quick after only 2 posts.
Some people just love looking on the bright side ??

Robert, that is totaly shocking that they could allow that diesel train to start up inside the station, the station master should get sacked for letting drivers cold start inside a covered station, having to evacuate the public from all platforms says it all really.
Then to blame it on a "Faulty Train" well here is the proof that they all do that and worse for all of 10 minutes from a cold start, even the driver gets fed up and goes for a coffee whilst the beast pollutes the whole place.

In our town we don't have a lot of "choke points" where traffic has to stand for a long while with the engine running.

EXCEPT, in the queue for the local environmental re-cycling centre aka the tip, it's so popular you could sell tickets (that will probably be the Councils next bright idea), literally the queue is way down the road.

So in effect you have air pollution, caused by people re-cycling stuff !!! Crazy.

Same queue at out what surprises me is how many people when they can see its a huge queue leave the engine on

Depends on time of year, it might be cold, or windows steaming up which would hamper visibility when they do get moving.

No its the same lot who when they say on a ferry don't start your engines until about to move off start them straight away then rev it a bit to warm the engine up

Problem is you have to keep moving forwards a bit at a time.

I'd love a Council official to come round to explain how good the Council is at being Green, by Hell, they'd get a mouthful !

If you think that’s bad you should have seen some of the ships that I have seen starting the engines after a long lie up .

I tend to leave it until its worth moving as long as the queue isn't getting in the way but there are a lot who seem to think keeping no more than a foot off the bumper of the car in front will somehow make the queue go quicker. I think the problem is the company the waste contract is subbed out too probably are on a target for the % of stuff collected that is recycled rather than the volume of stuff so no incentive to get waste in.

People have a different view on the word worth while. In the case of distance before moving is it 10 or 100 or 1000 yards before one should move. If everyone leaves a huge gap it could lead to road further back being blocked for no reason. I have no problem sitting in the cab with the engine running as people in office at work have the heating on or air con as do people sat at home on their key board. I will continue to be comfortable at work.

Heard something on the news about the area around the proposed 3rd runway at Heathrow will be designated as a ULEZ, that should help offset the pollution from the extra 250k flights.
