I passed my medical again nearing 73 to maintain my C1 entitlement to drive our 4000kg MoHo. However, 3 weeks ago I was diagnosed with a faulty heart valve which apparently needs either repair or replacement. I've been discharged from hospital on medication which is maintaining by BP and HR within normal limits. Consultant says to get on with life, "You're fitter than a lot of people out there" (apparently) until I get notification to go for surgery.
Question is, to anyone who has had/has similar issues, am I legally obliged to notify DVLA to drive our MoHo and if so what's the process please?

Consultant says to get on with life So i don't think there is any need to tell the DVLA
It's doubtful the consultant will even know about DVLA notifiable diseases.

But he dint say sorry you can not drive. And i have to inform the DVLA.
Sorry but If you check the notifiable health condition you need a form filling in for buses etc( C1) but not for car licence

I think because you have the C1 you need to inform the DVLA but it doesn’t necessarily mean they will revoke your license.
I didn’t apply for my C1 the second time round because of all the hoops I had to jump through.

Sorry Maybe he should ask the Doctor
Yeah, it's still not very clear but seems that I need to complete a VOCH1 form and submit to DVLA. I will however (tomorrow) ask for an appointment with my doctor (who has the discharge letter from the hospital) and see if, on the strength of it, whether he will supply a supporting letter to DVLA in order to drive the MoHo, or not!

A fallback solution will be to downplate the MoHo to 3500kg, so I do have options luckily.

It is not the really the Consultants or Doctors job to know what you drive or whether you have a B or C1 licence. B doesn’t need DVLA notification and C1 probably does. After my heart attack I submitted the DVLA form and spoke to my GP about driving my motorhome. He read the advice issued to medical professionals by the DVLA and decided that the Surgery did not have the equipment to do a Group 2 assessment. I had to wait for the DVLA to organise a stress test at the hospital at which point the Consultant was able to say I did meet the Group 2 requirement.

I decided I did not want to do any more stress tests and downsized to a van of less than 3500kg.

Look at the DVLA's doctors section, not easy to find, but most holiday insurance company's will have a link to it.

I fell foul of DVLA's rules, as there advice on TIA/Stroke only mentions not having problems after one month, no mention of 3 month or longer ban from driving (by consultant).

Tell the DVLA, tell your insurer, tell the DWP and watch them all try to shaft you?
If the nhs aren't disclosing it then I would keep shtum.....but that's just my opinion

When you say you ‘submitted the DVLA form’, is that the VOCH1 form?

Martin has also not renewed his C1. Too much hassle after having a stent fitted. He would pass the stress test but by the time they got everything organised and made the decision he would probably have to apply again.

Hi, I am just recovering from a heart attack (a mild one)
On my discharge letter it stated that I could not drive for four weeks and did not have to inform DVLA but because I had the C1 entitlement ihad to inform them , they have sent me the forms and it looks like I would have to do a stress test I have decided to give the C1 entitlement up , luckily my Van is within the 3500 limit

Wishing you a speedy recovery. I made a similar decision about bothering with the C1.

C1 on grandfather rights is class 1 until age 70, then class 2, unless driving commercially. Had this after my stroke.

When your insurance company refuses to pay out as they will be looking for excuses to not. Is it worth the risk?
