It'll be a belt. Needs changing at 5 years. so as Nicholsong says, Now. You might want to change the water pump at the same time. The water pump is part of the cam belt cover. Most people's veiw is whilts your in there you might as well do the pump as well as the belt.

We changed ours at last service 67 plate, it had reached 5 years old and even with low mileage, its not worth the risk of not changing it, plus the auxiliary belt.
Prices vary a lot, so shop arround would be my advice, several threads on here if you do a cambelt change search.

The general view for cars it is prudent to change pump at same time as belt, however , for Ducatos this is not the case the original pumps are expected to last at least 200,000 to 250,000 miles. (typical in lease hire firms) and it is normal not to replace the pump, inspect yes. The additional work to change pump is not trivial. Change All belts and bolts not always in kits.

So frustrating the manufacturer's also quote on time, I remember when I first started driving it was done on miles and if anything belt technology has got better. More money for the dealers no doubt.

Another factor, of course, is how the vehicle has been used. If run regularly (and properly serviced of course) the belt will tend to remain reasonably flexible even if it does wear. However an engine that sits around doing nothing for long periods is going to stiffen up; that's why there is a mileage and time limitation. We've got 139000 miles on our 07-plate 2.3 and have had it done twice.

6 years old and only 7500 miles? IMO you're asking for trouble so get it changed before you do another trip.

If you read the line about the timing belt in the table it states 96 months, the * refers to vehicles used in cold/demanding climates when 4 years is recommended but at least every 5 years. Thus the question is does the type of use most MHs have come under * or the table?

That's a bit steep! Should be around £500, unless it's an A-Class when most garages want to charge more as it's a bit of a game getting access.

many many years! since I was a kid
it's a glorified rubber band, and they harden and snap. Insist the bolts get replaced, not reused, as having been torqued once and slightly stretched, they are prone to snap if reused
