My niece, who is a doctor, attended a seminar yesterday where the concerns of TBE for those travelling in Europe was highlighted. It would appear that in southern Germany in particular they are concerned about the increase in numbers of cases. May be worth just noting if you are going abroad.

We aren’t going abroad this year , but thanks for that.
Our dog got a tick on the side of his nose the other day. We give him the drop on the back of the neck too. When I got it off it was dead , so the drop must have worked . But that was in our local park . Only the second one we’ve ever noticed on him too. The last one he got was up in Scotland a few years ago.

A colleague of mine contracted Lymes disease from a tick bite whilst walking inNorth Wales it left him quite ill .

It should be said that TBE is a different illness to Lyme disease which is also spread by ticks, the former being a viral disease and the later a bacterial one, currently there is no vaccine for Lyme disease and if untreated can have long term consequences so please read up on it and be careful with bites.

Just had to take our pooch to a vet in Tewkesbury with a tick in his eyelid!:Eeek: Think he picked it up in Exmoor the day before.

God don't get me worried, pulled one out of my leg in France last week, l still feel unwell !

I was about to post something similar. Our German friends have advised us to get a jag for TBE for travelling to S Germany/Austria this summer. Need to get it organised as not yet found somewhere that does it (SW Scotland).

Lymes disease is a real issue up here too ... my cousin has it and a contact in the highlands. Debilitating. My son came back from his DofE expedition with 3 ticks (that we know of) but so far no symptoms.

We are just back from fortnite up in Scotland and when you're to Culzeal Castle took the dog out for a walk through the woods and she came back and we took at least 12 ticks off her and there was only a couple really embedded one above her eye and the other one in her lady bits.:oops:I always carry a couple of tick removing tools a pair of very fine forceps and I think it's called a tom o tick tool to take them out. We had used frontline just before going away, but being a cocker spaniel, she is always rummaging in the undergrowth.

We had a tick removed from our chihuahua on his eyelid whilst at a Barcelona campsite recently
.But I had a tick bite a few days ago whilst geocaching although I had taken care to cover up all over ..grr

I had iitially a swollen site ..then all seemed ok but had a few moments of feeling poorly since
but fingers crossed all will be ok.. time will tell
Yikes I hate these bloody things with a vengeance ..

Mosquitos.. ticks..midges..fires

I got Lyme's decease from a tick bite in Austria last year, our GP, who's wife had the same a few years ago knew what was required and sent me for a blood test that went to a microbiologist, this confirmed my worst fears. The doctor prescribed a six week course of antibiotics then took it on himself to decide that was that. I am not so sure, especially as I am now having leg pains and other nasties. A return visit to the GP on the cards.

Keep your eye on it and if you develop the Bullseye marking get to a Doctor.
