I've been seeing a few adverts of late for an evaporative cooler akin to the Transcool unit. These run via a USB so that's 5 volts instead of 12v and 1.5 amps. But can also be plugged into the mains.

At £30 it'll have a big impact on Transcool who have been making big money out of a device that was overpriced and (some say) not that good

They are available for £40 at JML Direct and via this crew at £30.

:D sorry but whilst not a massive fan of Transcool there's no way on earth this little USB thing would do more than keep a pot of yoghurt cool!

The Transcool it goes from 0.7 amps to 1.17 amps so for a smaller unit these cheapo ones aren't that efficient for the 'benefit' they produce.

Any old fan plus using a 50p spray bottle will cool you down just as effectively.

You can get them on e-bay well cheap, one of my work mates has one and it's a bit pony.

All this type of Kit has one fatal flaw, they fly in the face of the known laws of physics. That which states that you cannot get more out of any device than what is put in (minus losses).

Know what your saying. 1st law of thermodynamics?.. Maybe... Or something similar  I've lost all confidence in my knowledge since I've been doing the daily 'fun' quiz (n)
