The Westys are off to ScandinaviašŸ‘šŸ‘

Adie you keep saying the weather is good but you are always wearing fleeces or jackets, I think I'll give it a miss.

A nice 30° in the Dordogne hopefully warmer when we get to Spain. 🤣
I don’t want 30Ā°šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø I’m wanting to go out of the way places, def NOT France or Spain (till next year) even then it’s only a transit route to Morocco.
I’ve really loved Finland, I’ll definitely be back therešŸ‘

What's the weather like in Doncaster Westy? You are fooling no one, its too light, no midges and looks nice where you are, AI can do wonders for your trip!
It will come as no surprise to many on here I wouldn’t have a clue how to use AI to do a picture!! I wouldn’t even know how to use the chat GPT, my limit is typing something in the Google task baršŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ™„šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜.
I’ve only just managed to put stuff on the journal and even that’s hit and miss😁😁😁

At least you can get to/use the journal.

Yep, spare cassette here too, but never needed yet. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

We have 3 cassettes - two used regularly, third was bought for Pyrenees and Greek islands, both of which have few facilities, but not used to date, as last time we were on Patmos a Swiss friend told us about a pumping station just below his house which had a chamber with an unlocked lid - very handy, because there is not one campsite/aire on the island.

As an aside, that friend was born on same day/year as I. Second person I have met with same birth date - anyone else experienced the same?

I'm exactly the same,I haven't got a clue about AI or GPT wouldn't even know where to find it and I won't even use self-service at supermarkets šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚
You don't use Google then?

Every time you do a search on Google probably applies to other search engines as well, the first answers are always AI generated.

Not on Duckduck go you can turn off AI results and choose not see AI generated pictures

Well I have nothing exciting to report today other than left Hamningberg and headed to Kirkenes but after driving round the town and looked at the uninspiring £23 Bobilplass park we decided to pull out of Kirkenes and start making our way towards Tana Bridge but first I need to give Jim a bit of advertising so we stuck a fun sticker on the Russian border sign🤣🤣🤣

Then we came across these fellows on the road which sapped another 20 mins or so.

So tonight’s park up is a picnic area lay-by nothing fancy as it gets dark soon and the wildlife comes to life.

Yes I picked up the banana skin (it wasn’t ours) and put it in the binšŸ‘

I'm surprised the gates to Russia are still open - mind you the Northern Norwegians have always liked the Russians more than their own down south in Oslo ever since WWII

And of course the Sami, and their reindeer, don't recognise borders.

Just want to say how much I'm enjoying your thread, Ade - well-written and some great photos. It's really giving me a feel for the place.
Glad you're enjoying your first retirement trip. šŸ˜€

That looks very attractive. I've visited Finland but only the coastal area (which was attractive) but didn't venture far inland. I knew it was all lakes and trees in there and thought it might be a bit boring but clearly not.

What is the midge/mosquito situation?
Very little over the last two weeksšŸ‘

When it comes to a spare cassette, I was a bit of cheapskate. I bought a black plastic 17L jerrycan which can double for draining off a bit of grey to rinse the cassette or, at a push, take the contents of the cassette.
Tbh I think that’s a great idea, it’s probly less likely to spill any of either contents toošŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘
Can anyone find any downsides to this??

We put our full spare cassette in a plastic lidded box in the garage and never had any spillages, the only minor downside to using a jerry can is they tend to glugg a bit when emptying with the potential of splashback

We were there in February this year. Our guide told us that the border crossing is no longer open for tourism or many other purposes. But there is a long standing historic relationship between Norwegians and Russians in Kirkenes and settlements just across the border, including intermarriage between the two nationalities and people living on one side with close relatives living over the border. So it is apparently the only EU border with Russia that is still open, but we were told that special permits are required, which are issued to affected residents and for other specifically allowed purposes.

We were also advised to be careful in what we might say to, or where we might be overheard by locals in the area, about Russia as it can be a very sensitive subject. Our guide although Norwegian had Russian connections in his family, and it was obvious that the subject was an issue of importance to him personally.

Well we’ve decided to do the back road towards Nordkapp the 98, shall we say it’s interesting in places, breathtaking in others, but have found a great stop for a cuppa (there are many more along this road)

Well that was one of the nicest coastal drives everšŸ‘ we stopped at a park up where the toilets were closed and every Tom dick and harry was zooming in close to the van to use the ā€œclosedā€ toilets. Soooo we moved closer to Nordkapp in fact we’re only 4 miles from it, it’s one of the last park ups before the Nordkapp centre, so we’re off there first thing, gonna be tight going back down tho😱😱
