Taxing The Stupid ?

£930m raised in the last year. But they only caught muppets who were stupid or thought they were above the law. They have signs to warn the stupid folk, but some folk are too stupid.

But if you live somewhere nice, do you really care ?

It's a long time since Parking had anything to do with the law. It is operated in most areas by contractors whose intention is to maximise income for themselves and for those who employ them. Even when tickets are issued in blatantly wrong cases the only recourse is an inconvenient and time-consuming appeal which if appropriate succeeds - but the Parking Enforcement person still maintains his quota.

They made £930m profit mostly in London where public transport is both cheap and frequent. Presumably this includes the congestion charge and LEZ. Anyone driving a car and parking in central London would tend to be rather rich.

The whole issue of parking fines and penalties is really quite interesting. I took East Hants to arbitration, and I won, and I'm getting some interesting feedback over some McDonald's invoices. Since they have introduced 90 minute parking restrictions, they seem to have lost a few of their customers. It seems insane to me to try to charge £100 to customers who want to have 2 meals instead of one, especially when the restaurant is empty I'm the only person in one with about 20 empty tables.

I like a relaxed slow meal, France has taught me the benefits of this, but, 90 minutes isn't enough to eat a Mucky Dee meal, even two. Me thinks someone is extracting the urine

Local Lidl tried this two years ago.. It lasted about 4 month. when they realised the turn over had taken a pretty big nose dive the scheme was dropped !

I suspect he's dragging his two meals out for the free wifi, would probably be cheaper and healthier to do a 100GB sim only Vodafone deal.

BT used to have to pay around 250,000/year in fines for the drivers repairing phones & that was years ago.

Some reps sit in McD's half the day meeting up & using th efree wifi

I don't eat the food, I just drink the coffee, and I find free parking, and walk to the McD. I use more than 100Gb, as I need to synchronise cryptocoin nodes, watch videos, and create web sites. It isn't just the WiFi, but I also need the power, as I haven't got round to installing much solar. Also, I enjoy the interaction with other customers. I meet quite a few digit nomads and others who use the restaurant as an office. One interesting guy is a commodities trader for example.

So what are McDonalds getting out of this, they ought to be charging you by the minute never mind 90.

In my experience of working in London for 20 years a large portion of the fines are not levied on the stupid, rather on tradesmen trying to earn a living.
I've just had my first one.
I parked in the direction of travel, parked on the left looking to the right for a property number.
Victor meldrew looking guy popped his head out from the left where I was parked.
I went over to client to ask if parking was okay?
Client said they had two spaces at the rear. But my van was fine where it was as too big for space.

Next thing I get a notice from the council, doubled as I had not responded. But I had no ticket on the windscreen.

Asked for photo evidence which was sent showing penalty notice cleared Stuck to the screen. I suspect victor had removed it .

Turns out I had parked next to a ridiculously placed dropped kerb.

I had a 30-minute meeting in central London a few years ago but to make the trip worthwhile I decided to bung 6-hours into the ticket machine so that I could take the extra time to catch-up with a pal over lunch.

As it turned out my organisation took 5-hours longer to conduct a 30-minute meeting so once finished I was forced to run the mile back to the car to be greeted by a yellow ticket on the windscreen.

I was 8-minutes overdue the ticket time!

I did a lot of driving in London for the Government Car and Despatch Agency(Now disbanded). As the vehicles were operated by HM Gov they did not attract VED(HM cannot pay herself)

Equally if we got a ticket it was just torn up.

There was a parking space in Victoria that was designated 'Diplomatic Vehicles'. I got a ticket, which made me cross because our own Government were not considered 'Diplomatic'? - in our own country?

Next door took the kids to Rheged at half term with two other families. The place was heaving so they went to Maccy D's in Penrith for lunch. 3 Mums and 7 kids, they exceeded the 90 minutes by 9 minutes (they didn't know about the recent changes) and each got a £50 fine. They contacted MD's as they still had their till receipts but we're told to take it up with the parking enforcer and surprise, surprise, no joy there. :(

Two meals sorry snacks in McDonald's in one go wow.I have had 3 in 20 odd years..BUSBY.?

It’s FAST food. If 90 mins aren’t enough, you, or they are doing something wrong.

And more wrong than eating that disgusting junk in the first place.

You do realise, these Parking Companies, are the same guys who where "rogue clampers" before the law`s where changed?. They just moved upmarket. Same Crooks but now in Suits.

The only decent thing in McD`s is coffee. And the best cup of tea (hot) in the USA.!

If you read the signs and are careful and don't park where you shouldn't it wont cost anything in fines.BUSBY.

There is some very snobbish rubbish quoted about McDonalds, the food is all from British beef and eggs and milk and Irish potatoes, and all cooked right in front of you, what's wrong with that, and believe me I know plenty people that supply them with beef and it has to be to very rigorous quality inspection or it is rejected.

Why would you want two meals inside of 90 minutes?

We used to supply the lambs heads to a firm in Bristol who scraped every last bit of meat off of what wasn't even left for some product.
Then you have MRM ,which is mechanically recovered meat which is produced by throwing whatever bones ,carcasses, etc; after they have been stripped of as much meat as is possible by hand , into a hydraulic press which then extrudes the miniscule amounts left whilst seperating the bones

I drove a tipper out of Edmonton doing loads into the city,
? Janie was not happy when I jacked it in, because I was earning twice as much as anywhere else I had worked. ?

But the stress with rail strikes, traffic getting in and out of the city and traffic wardens waiting for me with the tickets. ?
Just got to me in the end. ? Bob.

How do they manage to make good ingredients crap then ???

We camped at 'Bath' Main Coach Park over night some years ago.
It was £2 to park from 6PM to 8AM.
I set My alarm, got up, dressed and opened the front curtain @ 07:55 to see a Traffic Warden outside literally waiting to pounce.
Boy was I glad that the engine started.

Glad this post has turned into a discussion about McDonalds rather than the stupid opening post. I lived and worked in London for a number of years and factoring in parking fines went with the territory otherwise you would never get anything done, no complaints just a factor of working in London. Fact you would look rather stupid if you followed every warning sign, you'd never win a contract.
