Hi. Our kitchen sink tap (see photo) has died. When used earlier today the pump sounded 'weak' and now the pump is not activated at all and the flow has stopped completely apart from a slow dribble which happens even when the pump electrics are off. Bathroom tap works fine and pump sounds fine with it. I have checked electrical connections near the water tank and all look good. Under the kitchen sink I see a couple of brown wires going into the bottom of the tap, but I cannot take things apart any further. I think that I got a half second burst of life out of the pump while fiddling with these wires, but it was so brief I am not sure. Now all dead. I suspect the tap is not telling the cables that it has ben turned on. Anyone with experience of fixing this kind of problem? Thanks muchly.

I suspect you're absolutely correct: The electricity is not being switched-on by the tap.
It could be that the switch inside the tap has failed,
Or it could be a faulty connection with one of the wires.

There is a micro switch inside the tap which can fail. You should be able to access it some how. On mine you remove the tap - the on/off bit that moves, from the top.

If it worked for a little when you messed with the wires it could be a dodgy connection.

Resoldering is usually the answer. It doesn't take much to stop 12v.

If you're stuck you can open the tap then turn on another tap a little to start the pump......water will come out of the kitchen tap.
Don't forget to close the other tap when you've finished

I had to do this for nearly a year to use the shower while waiting for our dealer to get a new tap. (He couldn't be bothered with just a new switch) When he eventually did get it and fitted it still didn't work. He then realised it was a disconnection somewhere else in the van which took minutes to fix. Sums up our guy.

Thanks to all for your comments. Looks like a new tap assembly is needed so ordered one to pick up on our way back home. In the meantime, we are using a jig and the shower tap. Ho hum.

You don't need a new tap it's an easy repair, once you have stripped the tap down .
I got fed up with the wires to the microswitch breaking so I got rid of the submersible pump and fitted a Shureflo pressure switched pump.

You can test to see if the problem is the tap microswitch or not. There will be a 2-way connector below the sink somewhere, that connects to the microswitch. If you bridge the two connectors with a link of wire/staple/pair of scissors the pump should fire up, and the water will flow through the tap if it's open. If it doesn't fire up, then the problem is elsewhere.
