Have been looking at websites that sell Swiss vignette. There seems to me that there are few con merchants trying to sell them. One told me as there were two people you would
have to pay for two at 35€ each .Others have quoted 45€ each and you only need one per van . Anybody out there who has purchased one on line, when and where? My van weighs at present 3.5.

Couldn’t tell you the current price, but it’s only 1 per vehicle >3.5ton

Our van is over 3.5t and we just went to the office at the border and bought the permit there. I had all the paperwork but they hardly glanced at it, gave me the form, helped me complete it (I could read the French okay but wasn't quite sure about which permit I needed), then took my money and gave me the permit. The official spoke very good English and with my very poor French we understood each other. I got a 10 day permit and you have to cross off each day you are in Switzerland - traveling or not.

Pay at border, there is a separate lane as you approach from Basil side, lots of border control waiting to issue the Vignette all speak English, its a sticker that goes on the windscreen, 40 Swiss francs, pay on card, or will accept euros, exchange rate makes it about £35
3.5 ton + different rules, all info on Swiss Vignette web site
Its very easy

Should read it’s very Easy

I have to ask, but why were you speaking French to a Swiss official, who spoke very good English? 🤔

Fair play to you both. :giggler:

Edit: got it now, official was French @ the Swiss border. :whew::whew::whew:

We'd been in France for a while and it was habit .... he let me talk for a minute or two and then spoke to me in English :)

We needed both languages when it came to explaining about crossing off the day even if not traveling :) The official asked me to write that down for him in English which I was happy to do. He said a lot of people didn't understand that the permit was for every day the vehicle was in Switzerland and not for the days on the road.

For clarity thats the over 3500kgs one?
Afaik the under 3500kgs one is for a year regardless of days and can't be bought on the via app

Yes for the over 3500 kg one. I don't think that can be bought in advance - it couldn't 4 years ago but that may have changed.

The under 3.5t is for a year I think. My sister-in-law insists it is called a "Wig Net".

:)

Whilst in Italy I thought I’d buy my 7 day ticket on the via app, it didn’t work, went through a remote crossing in Mustair and just caught an official who opened back up and gave me the paperwork as I’d shown him the app screen that I’d paid but it didn’t register! Day after it all went off the app, no payment, no pass🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I used to do the border thing but decided to use the app this time, worked fine, showed the qr code to the customs guy and on our way in moments.

Both under and over 3.5 tonnes can be done on the VIA app. Not all border crossings are manned all the time as we found out, but the app is very easy to use - one of, if not the best app I’ve ever used.

As an aside, keep receipts of purchase: In case the windscreen breaks (with the vignette on) and needs to be replaced, you can get a vignette duplicate (for free) by simply showing the receipt as well as parts of the vignette detached from the broken windscreen

Wonder if that works for the German and French stickers👍

I've just come back from Switzerland and my van is over 3.5t.

Easiest way by far to get the PSVA permit is to use the "Via" app on a phone. Don't rely on getting one at the border - many posts are unmanned, and on those that are manned parking can be a problem.

You can email the permit to yourself and print it out, or just leave it in the app on your phone. Even for the "app-phobic" (me!) it's very simple. I think you can get a permit on the app for under 3.5t as well.

If you're not in Switzerland for long it can be cheaper to be over 3.5t, as you can buy for a much shorter period than vans below 3.5t, oddly enough.

Resurrecting an older thread.

Looked today as I am expecting a week or more in Switzerland. It says on the website that it is only necessary for Motorways and Expressways. But at 40CH or £35.50 I thought about it until I saw that they added £20 booking fee if bought online.... But it is post free!

Nope. Border it is.

Don't understand this at all, we crossed into Switzerland in September, and asked a worker what we needed, he says are you going on the motorway, we said no, ok then just carry on , no fee, and we carried on and paid nothing.

He was correct, no fee required for non motorway journeys.
We tend to pass through Switzerland and use motorway tunnels so get a vingette at the border. Once we entered via France in the Alps, no border so just stopped at first fuel station to buy one.
If you arrive at a crossing with a border control colyboy , they will make sure you buy one before you proceed. Don’t worry about it.

Just turn up at the border checkpoint without a sticker on the screen and the nice police man will show you where to park and direct you to the office to buy one in your chosen currency, keep away from the crooks online.
