Van Conversion
Exp
A few years now
Chose our Globecar Summit because of their swing across bathroom wall (with sink attached) that converts into a good size shower cubicle, Adria added this to their van conversion range & now Chausson https://www.chausson-camping-cars.fr/en/gamme/s-low-profiles/ have done similar to this (not full length panel though so toilet could get wet) in a couple of their 2022 coachbuilt models. Chausson are more experimental than many makes & come up with new ideas each year which aren't always good but would think this one is here to stay & other manufacturers are likely to already be doing the same or follow suit.

Our Hymer, B644 year 2000, had this design. The toilet didn't get wet though. I liked it, we a bigger shower cubicle and it stopped us storing stuff in the shower tray.
Think we might have seen it in the odd A Class over the years but not in low profile compact coachbuilts - the first thing I check is the bathroom as it has to be practical & not a fan of shower curtains. Mind you the last time we looked properly was at the last NEC (October launch) Show so maybe they have all been doing this for the last year?! Even then we have yet to make it to the Dusseldorf Show so we have only seen UK models.

Hymer Van in 2006 had them.
Before my time motorhome wise - wonder why they didn't continue with them?

Got something similar in my 2010 Carthago. Filled in the shower tray with lightweight insulating material and topped with carpet. Easily removable prior to showering.

Our Swift Bessacar we bought new in 2009 was like that. Had to ensure nobody else needed the loo whilst anyone else had a shower. Plus, the washbasin was very small, and you needed a mat always in the shower tray otherwise you'd scratch it like hell should you be desperate and dash into the bathroom to use the loo with your outside shoes still on.

Our 2009 Ace Siena has one - I thought they were pretty much a standard fitting but maybe not?

The idea & design is clearly not entirely new but we tried to find a new van conversion or low profile coachbuilt with this type of swing wall bathroom & certainly wasn't widely available as didn't manage to find any after many, many hours searching at multiple NEC Shows & waited over a year & had to import to get this in a van conversion three years ago! Still think it might be the trend for 2022 models like other previous trends - small coachbuilts (from eight years ago), then narrower motorhomes, followed by drop down electric beds, van conversions then sun roofs etc.

My 2010 Autosleeper had a swinging wall shower. Very versatile

Both our two previous vans had them Carado and Hobby and the Pilote does as well.

Our Hymer MLT 570 (2017) has one - we think it's great, and it works really well. On ours the panel is full length so the toilet doesn't get wet.

My 2020 Pilote P650GJ has this but it’s a full wall so the toilet doesn’t get wet, Pilote have been doing this for a good few years.

Our Hymer Cl554 2016 has a swing wall - makes a big shower area. We love it, it was a great selling point.

Even got one up here in the cheap seats, [ Sunlight T66, 2019]. Not full length, as the wall sits above the W.C. lid, but it does then give more elbow room, swinging walls, and roundabouts  .

Neat design. Being the last of the soap dodgers, I use the loo more than the shower, so it makes sense to me to save space. Thanks for the info.

Yes we had a C544, 2004 Hymer with overcab bed with the same shower/ toilet layout. A very practical use of space and made for a larger toilet/ bathroom area.

My 2020 Pilote P650GJ has this but it’s a full wall so the toilet doesn’t get wet, Pilote have been doing this for a good few years.
The thing i dont like about that particular design is the wood on the roof ...over time condensation will affect that and as theres a gap above it it will get behind it too.

A wooden duckboard would look better IMO.

With swinging walls where does one put the towels?

With our shower curtain the towels are at the other end of the compartment and protected by the curtain and are also available when using the sink.

We looked at some with swing walls, or moving basins. I discounted them as I don’t like the idea of pipes (supply and waste ) being flexed and moved about. It’s only a matter of time till they fail. I wanted a proper enclosed shower with a door/screen, and access to the toilet. On some designs I wonder why the have basins as they are opposite the kitchen sink anyway, and the basin so ridiculously small.

For those of us of a more, diminutive stance, we can just swing the wall back into place whilst still in the cubicle, and the towel is then to hand behind where the wall was. The more, generously covered might have to place a foot outside of the cubicle to allow to wall to swing shut, but again the towel is then to hand again. I'm not against curtain's, I just dislike the way they stick to you when you bend over.
I have shaped one of those foam segmented floor cushions to fit in the shower tray, it can used below the duck board in the day time to act as a cushion. It can also be used as an upstand to keep the toilet seat dry when showering.
Once again, it's probably a case of making whatever you have work the best it can by some thought and innovation.

Was going to say Sunlight's have them as we were looking to buy one before motorhome price madness descended :(
