swift bolero 612 ek
Hello
We have just bought the above vehicle and love it , the issue is with vague steering as though it has a ton of lead in the boot ! It has been checked by a garage new tyres tracking done etc no water in tanks or overloaded cupboards, tyres are at 65 psi lower than the 79 on the door pillar sticker but supposedly ok … it does not feel right but I am told it is ok I have driven 6 meter panel vans a lot so used to wind and load weights changing handling …. So question is any one have one and find it the same ? Or had a similar problem/ solution?
Many thanks
Joe

Hi there and welcome,

Most motorhomes have a nose down attitude, and tyre pressures of 65 psi are fine on the correct axle loads and tyre size and make.
Vague steering as you know often means excessive weight or low tyre pressures on the rear tending to lift the front. ( assuming no mechanical issues at the front ).

Have you individually weighed the axles when loaded and asked the tyre manufacturer what pressures should be applied to those weights and tyre size / type.

That’s where I would start.

Thanks for the answer the nose looks high unladen as in the van with nothing in it , it has towed something as a tow ball is fitted tyres I presume are the correct size but can research that

If its sitting nose high and you suspect it’s towed something heavy then a rear suspension torsion bar (alko chassis) or rear spring check ( fiat camper chassis) would be worth a look.

The Fiat camper chassis rear wheels are on a slightly wider track than the front. On well-worn roads where you sometimes get shallow ruts in the surface, the front wheels try to pull you one way whilst the rear wheels the other, resulting in a slight swaying feeling. Little you can do about it apart from moving over a little to avoid the ruts.
