My local dealer, Viscount Motor Homes, has locked the gate and reduced staff, viewing is by appointment only. I was told by the service manager that the new business model is working well, as customers who make appointments tend to be serious buyers. They did have a lot of stock, although they offer storage so not all would be for sale.
We are about 2 months away from the start of the season, it will be interesting to see stock levels in June.

I still find it crazy that motorhomes that are 10 years old are the same price now second hand as they where new
Yes, it makes you think that there is a significant price correction coming soon!
We bought our first motorhome in Dec 2016. It was a new Elddis Accordo 120.
We paid 39K for it. There is one the exact same year and model currently for sale on Autotrader for Ā£50K!!!!!!

Inflation has to take some of the blame for that, a year at 10% is a big hit to the value of the pound. Add to that 9 years at 2%.

The low mileage on alot of motor homes helps them to keep their value as well, not sure what improvements manufacturers have made over the last 10 years but I wouldn't say there was that many, is there, maybe battery tech?

Yeah I get that I suppose something is only worth what someone will pay ultimately see what happens this year.

The price of motorhomes has risen much more than the rate of inflation.
For example - the new Elddis we purchased for Ā£39K in 2016 should cost approx. Ā£53k today due to inflation.
Current price = Ā£68K.

Just been to Brownhills to drop of Motorhome, and I couldnā€™t believe just how much stock they have! I know itā€™s a slow time of year but even soā€¦
Anyone noticed the same at other dealers.
Could it be they and other dealers are getting ready for the coming season, after all they can't sell motorhomes of they have no stock.

We traded our Adria in last May. The dealer still has it and hasn't discounted it a penny. I guess they are holding their nerve until the bank comes knocking.
Ditto, from last September.

Hi Folks. It could be that the supply of new vehicles has started to flow so those who wanted to trade in for a new one have finally got their pride and joy.

We may see sensible prices for used vehicles return. Looking at the thread about dealer mark ups, perhaps their high mark up days are drawing to an end.

Probably not a massive number but nobody in south of Ireland is buying used campervans/motorhomes in Britain anymore post Brexit. I bought back in 2019 and it was just 13.3% to register the van in Ireland. Now it's 13.3% registration, 10% import duty and 23% VAT. My next campervan purchase will not be easy me thinks.

Iā€™ve been keeping an eye on auto trader over the past year. Quite a lot of vans that Iā€™ve saved are there, generally at the same price mind, 6 months later. Another thing Iā€™ve noticed is the same vans disappearing off at Chritmas to be re listed later.
On the other hand you have people like Jody at Highbridge saying that every month, including December is busy.
Overall there must be a limit to how many (overpriced) motorhomes can be sold, even if a lot of the buyers are well off retirees.

There is a 3 year old low mileage nicely optioned Hymer ML-t 580 4x4 for sale at Travelworld for Ā£148,000. Two weeks ago this very same vehicle was advertised by a Carthago dealer in Scotland, who had taken it in part exchange, for Ā£120,000.

You got love the ambitious pricing at Travelworld!

Even crazier the 2024 year models have been noticeably upgraded and a similar spec would likely be less money new.

In Germany it's possible to get short delivery dates - less than 4 months on a new ML-t and a discount on list price.

Was in Brownhills on Friday ( Fiat warranty!) and was surprised just how rammed the place is ( inside and out ) with both new and used stock. They seem to be offering various 'discounts' but new & used prices are still crazily high. They seem to have a rather large amount of new Swift models.

Went to Brownhills Newark on Monday last, and was amazed at the amount of stock they still have, with a mix of brand new unregistered and used motorhomes.
Over 130 vans apparently according to a member of staff.
And only 3 Camper Vans with pop top roofs, as these were the type that were mainly in demand and selling!
Change of the times???

Now at 10200 for sale so approx. 100 motorhomes per week being added.
It will be interesting to see if this trend continues.
10,000 Motorhomes/Campervans for sale on Autotrader on 4th Feb.
10,200 for sale 23rd Feb.
10,500 for sale today, so the trend continues.
(This time last year there was approx. 8000 for sale)
I had our motorhome in for a habitation service last week and the dealer had a lot of stock (motorhomes and caravans)
One year ago their yard was almost empty.
