We are looking to book our return ferry back to the UK from mainland europe and I'm shocked at the price of the ferry.
Calais to Dover on the 20th September £97.50. (Irish ferries)
Hook van Holland to Harwich on the 20th September £135.50. (Stena line)
What do you think book it to secure this price.
This seems cheap to me.

I think you are comparing it with August prices, we normally pay £160 to £180 for a return Newhaven/Dieppe.

Current trip we used the tunnel for convenience on this trip £260 return.

Thanks. It just seemed good value to get a crossing under £100.
I'm obviously out of touch as we have done Portsmouth to and from Spain the last few times.

Have a word around at Calais as I'm sure that someone will have a rubber dinghy big enough to take your van. ;)
Why is it a recreational boating region 😁

Harwich - hook is a good price, even in high season.

If you have Tesco vouchers, you can use them.

I’m registered with them and their loyalty club. So often get 20% off codes. Works out better than Tesco deals.

As the have huge vessels with plenty of car decks, price is good for large vehicles .

As Lenny HB mentions. Mega en can be very good. Got a car and caravan price £60 one way

Normal price to me. I paid 96€ dunkirk >dover end of june & dieppe >newhaven was similar. august return was £93 dover>dunkirk whereas newhaven dieppe was £187.
Price now is over double what it was before covid.

If your happy with the price book it, but try not check later to see if the price has dropped unless it has free cancellation so you can then taken a cheaper deal . Or if the prices go up you can feel smug as you sip your wine

We are in Nuess next to Dusseldorf as we need a part for our suspension and this was the local VB dealer to Dusseldorf.
Expected for Friday or 6 weeks from now, if it's 6 weeks from now we will limp back to the UK so the shortest driving distance would be better.
I'm booking the ferry on Friday when I have more info for our suspension, I was just checking prices and I was genuinely shocked but it seems £100 a crossing via calais is a normal price.

Looks cheap to me I've just paid £261.00 Cherbourg to Portsmouth with pet friendly cabin leaving this Friday. That's in a normal sized car!

Priced up Portsmouth to Dieppe for van plus the 2 pups over, £600 😳😳😳
Thought I would have a look before booking tunnel for this week.
Worth noting P&O Dover - Calais have pet friendly lounge on some boats.. Extra £5 per dog and £5 for humans. Wouldn't leave mine in the van or car with all the noise on car decks. Alarms going off etc.

Tunnel just before Christmas is going to cost us £245 return, 6m PVC. I've got a Tesco credit card so I'll be using points. Have to say it really has saved us a fortune over the years.
Just paid £400 return for the tunnel with 2 dogs.
Probably didn’t help as I left it late to book plus going near peak times.

We paid £75.00 in mid May for 2 adults and an 8.0 motorhome with Stena Harwich Hook of Holland! Booked with C&MC.

I forgot about the camc option. I will try them as well before I book. Thanks

Given the choice we always prefer the Harwich/Hook ferry.

If you get the overnight one you get on the ferry about 8pm, go to your cabin (not optional), get woken up early doors in Holland and you can be across the German border in time for a late breakfast and in Dusseldorf before lunchtime.

It's a far more pleasant run than Dover/Calais as no queues and if you take tolls and fuel into account possibly cheaper.
For Germany it's also a considerably shorter drive.

We are actually coming back to the UK so we where looking to do the daytime one. Thank you though 🙂

But:cry:when you know the price in 2019 & the years before was £44 & the flexi was only £20.:crying:
Back then when travelling to the Uk the ferry + flexi + dog charge cost less than £100 all in.:crying:

Must have been one of the other French ports🤔🤔
Definitely from Portsmouth as only 10 minutes drive for me.
As far as I know, the only passenger ferries from Portsmouth to France (all Brittany Ferries) go to Le Havre, Caen, Cherbourg and St Malo. Maybe it was Newhaven to Dieppe (DFDS) you were thinking of - the next nearest to Pompey?

Why not have a snooze with them in the MH ... :whistle2:

Newhaven to Dieppe was about £200ish but no early sailing available.

Was definitely France so must have been Cherbourg, anyways over £600😳😳

Pre Covid I thought anything over £120 for a return Dover/Calais was expensive.

£98 out £101 back irish ferries booked yesterday for 15th Sept with good times both ways £50 tesco vouchers £49 card

Don't think I you are permitted.
I know many who used to 'hide' in the vehicles on the car deck .the Herald of Free Enterprise put a stop to that as it brought home the dangers on the car decks if something went wrong

Yeah, I've just paid £456.70 for Caen/Portsmouth - Portsmouth/Cherbourg with pet friendly cabin at end of October in a normal sized car. Not cheap
