All I can say is we are here now !! I will of course update this thread in the morning if things change, which I suspect they won't as we've now been joined by 3 Belgian campervans
i only know that i am parked up by the side of the canal on a stretch of concrete hardstanding. the canal is 10ft from my motorhome. Is there some confusion between where MisterB is located and the car park on the other side of the canal by the village ?
Where Misterb is located is fine but the car park not ?
Sorry to be so cruel,,, but this is what you could have hadi only know that i am parked up by the side of the canal on a stretch of concrete hardstanding. the canal is 10ft from my motorhome.
if my what3words caused confusion, i apologise! i followed the co-ordinates given by rb62 - and they lead me to this spot which is also being used by a few other motorhomes!
Coastal Cruiser. - no ice cream man has appeared, which is slightly dissapointing .... can you give him a ring and tell him to get his backside over here - 2 x 99's are required !!
And you are definitely on the correct spoti only know that i am parked up by the side of the canal on a stretch of concrete hardstanding. the canal is 10ft from my motorhome.

They won’t take me aliveCoastal Cruiser.
how cruel is that photograph - i feel that it hurt my feelings and demand the local constabulary visit you and issue a stern warning and post on their twitter feed that such behaviour is unacceptable AND issue you with a fine equating to the cost of two 99's if ever our paths should cross .....
(they do look nice though, yum yum !)
scoundrel ....They won’t take me alive
We did .....
You cruel bugger, can taste that ice cream
I am sure you were in the correct spot and a lovely spot it is too, I think the comments about not being welcome and moved on were from people that had parked at the "new" boat lift.Morning update after spending the night near the old boat lift at Strepy - had a very peaceful nights sleep, no interruptions, no noise (after The Sandman tune had talked off into the distance - there should be T shirts or Sandman Stickers available !), no one seemed in the slightest perturbed that motorhomes, campers, converted vans and massive converted lorry we're parked here overnight.
I saw a police car go over the adjacent road bridge and we can be clearly seen from there, so again another indicator that it's perfectly acceptable to be here.
Perfect place for a 5 min cycle or 15 min walk to watch the boat lift operate. We didn't go into the visitors centre but watched from the adjacent key - you can get quite close and there is a chain link fence to stop you getting too close.
A great piece of engineering using concrete blocks to counterbalance the load, I had assumed that one lift counterbalanced the other, but it looks like they can operate independently of each other.
Great park up, highly recommended!
Thanks to everyone who shared the information with us (all!)
Camper contact mixed reviews some say it's closed and others open & it's no longer on Park4Night & SearchforSites says no longer available, fairly certain they are referring to the old boat lift one.I am sure you were in the correct spot and a lovely spot it is too, I think the comments about not being welcome and moved on were from people that had parked at the "new" boat lift.
Thanks Lenny thought I was going mad when all I could find were saying it was shut but seemed openCamper contact mixed reviews some say it's closed and others open & it's no longer on Park4Night & SearchforSites says no longer available, fairly certain they are referring to the old boat lift one.
Also says closed on a German Stellaplatz site.
Wonder if they have changed their minds or it could be just high season when they turf you off.
Strange that although it looks like no vans from the bridge picture if you follow down with street view it has loads of vans showing on the hardstanding!!Googles streetview taken june 2022 also shows no vans parked up .
That image is 2 years old, if look at the bottom right of the image it gives you the date.Strange that although it looks like no vans from the bridge picture if you follow down with street view it has loads of vans showing on the hardstanding!!
