Hi what appears to be paint overspray marking the shiny part of the grill on a Hymer BMCI 580 grill (finish on the shiny part of grill that is I think referred to piano finish). Has anyone come across this happening on their van and what do you think has caused it. I have tried "T"cut, tar remover, olive oil, nail polish remover and finally sent off for autoglym clay detailing kit, all to no avail. It only has come out on the shiny black and not on any boat black on the grill. Weird

Wondering why you have overspray there, either a poor repair job or standing next to a vehicle that has had some spraying done on it.

The front of your Hymer is GRP with a gel coat finish there is no spraying on it unless someone has bodged a repair, a proper repair would have been done with gel coat.

I had the same problem a few years ago. It was pigment in the plastic and the UV plus sun caused it to come to the surface.
Only cure was either a replacement or professional repaint. Neither options are cheap. I painstaking wrapped mine with vinyl as it's my job.

The van was brand new July 2019 and only used in France/Spain Sept then put away in our garage until this week to come out for a wash and spring clean and in doing so noticed the overspray on it. It has only attached to the piano black part of the grill and not the matt black portion. Also there is no feel of paint over spray on the white bonnet. Do you think this could be some sort of lime etc that had come from the road.

Thats very interesting wiljoy. How did you analyse that it was caused by pigment in the plastic because if this is what is happening in mine it should still be under warranty from Hymer. What sort of price would it cost to have it wrapped?

The only other time I have seen anything like it is when the "Lacquer" over Metalic paint finishes has degraded, (often caused by sunlight too) or Silicone in the atmosphere or on the surface, when spraying?. Neither of which would appear to be the case here?.

As it's so young warranty should cover it. I've a customer who trades in plastics etc.
The UV these days wreaks havoc on plastic and all other man made materials
It took me a couple of days to wrap and as it was such a terrible job I'll never do another. The price is difficult as it depends on the material quality used.
Go down the warranty route first.

Yes Lenny have a gloss one it which has been fitted after spraying or whatever so no problem with mine.

I say this Lenny as Hymer supplied me with a new bonnet out of warranty due to a delamination problem obove hinge pads (in hot weather) and it came without a grill or fittings, haven’t fitted it yet

If it’s a vehicle fault then Fiat will just fix it under warranty, Fiat or your Hymer dealer body shop can have a look and help. We have the same gloss grill it still looks good

Visually it looks more like typical road rash but you would feel that ie as rough surface
It is most definitely Not over spray, a gun making that mess would be applying a textured finish at best

I would like to thank you all for your help and suggestions. Stay safe

This describes very much like the problem that N+B had with the new Flairs and some Artos from 2015. The black was/is a GRP moulding, poorly constructed/prepared I never did get told which, and it always started on the bonnet. It is called osmosis which some boat owners will be familiar with. There will be many explanations on the web but here is one.
In my case N+B collected the Flair from here in the UK on a low loader and took it back to the factory to resolve. It was a contractor who made the mouldings cutting corners in my opinion, but they had over 500 vans to fix. The first evidence appeared somewhere around a year after manufacture so similar to yourself.
Clearly N+B are part of the Hymer group and I wonder if contractors are shared through the group, but that said this was a big issue so it may be a problem with yet another contractor. I know of another problem that N+B had which was of their own creation and they admitted that they should have known (putting stainless self tappers into aluminium panels for a nice galvanic corrosive explosion). If you have a marine surveyor that you can call on to look at it that may give you the basis to take the matter further.
Maybe exploring the Hymer groups here and in Germany will provide some more evidence and explanations?

from my Flair in which you can see the similarity?

Thank you so much for this information Michael. I can now try and get some recourse to this issue from Hymer. Appreciate your time and effort into sending me this information.
