I want to install a stopper on the door so that it stops (and stays open) much earlier than the factory full open-position. There are plenty of stoppers to choose from, but I'm pretty sure I've seen a sliding door on a Ducato which could 'override' the stopper. You slid the door to the stopper, operated the outer handle and then you could slide past the stopper to the full open position. Is there a stopper like that on sale somewhere, or does that kind of function need some modifications also to the door locking mechanism so a simple stopper isn't enough?

The one I had in my previous PVC was something like this (and it couldn't be overriden):

Always used a tennis ball in the bottom rail on my previous van.

I thought it would be a useful addition but the annoyance of pulling the handle twice outways the advantages.

I just turned a nylon stopper to go in one of the holes behind the runner for when we do need something to hold the door midway.

I remember Wombles recommending something years ago. In fact we bought one but were so useless we couldn’t work out how to fit it despite it being finest German engineering! Karen will no doubt remember what it’s called.

It's the Stopsy but many other versions are available nowadays!

Plastic furniture blocks do the trick, 1 for the first position where you can lift up the handle to go over it then 2 together which stops the door going any further, fixed using self tappers.

I like that idea!

For now, the tennis ball approach really does work well for us.
