We have had two Ford Transit minibuses stolen over the last 5 years.

Apparently according to our local police they are mostly stolen by the non paying members of the caravan club and stripped for spares.

They like the charity minibuses and motorhomes as they typically have been maintained to a very high standard and normally have a low milage.

In addition Fords are very easy to access.

I'm afraid that anyone that owns a motorhome under about 15 years old and has not fitted it with a decent alarm, immobiliser and tracker is asking for trouble, and driving up the insurance rates for the rest of us

So you are blaming motorhome owners for insurance rate increases and not the scum that steal them?

I would say it’s not dealing with the thieves in a efficient and correct manner that is driving up insurance costs

Quite right. I was thinking that.
Well said!

Insurance works exactly like betting on a horse race.
Nobody castigates a 10/1 outsider winning a race.

Owners of any property that make it easy for it to be stolen simply drive up the rates for rest of us.
If every insurance company that specalised in motorhome insurance insisted on a decent quality after market (so they were all different) alarm, tracker and immobiliser, then thefts of motorhomes would fall and the insurance rates would also reduce considerably. Thieves will always go for the easiest low hanging fruit.

Vehicle thieves are caught so rarely that even if the occasional one was given more that the normal "don't do it again, or else" telling off, it would not make a difference to the numbers, as an entire industry runs on stolen parts.

Shot yourselves in the foot there have you not, as it looks like you didn't do a very good job of stopping your two minibuses from being stolen.

After the first one was stolen we made an arrangement to store future minibuses inside the local Army barracks.
The current minibus has 24hr armed guards.

(The second one was stolen from a local garage where it was having it's MoT done, so the tracker and alarm were disabled to allow for the work. The thieves broke in and took the keys and several vehicles. None recovered.)

ive been outside all day swopping contents of two work van racking etc as they were a distance apart everytime i went from one to the other i had to lock and unlock each one and i thought if the police and courts were doing their jobs properly this wouldnt be necessary
