Hello all, was surprised today to be told the sticker same size as the old tax disc on front windscreen (A class) in the same place, bottom far right corner, was a MOT fail due to it impairing forward vision, fortunately despite me giving the dimensions of our moho it turned out it had too much overhang to fit their bay and did not get failed but was told if it had would have been failed due to the sticker!
Was a council MOT centre but really?

Apparently ( and it can be checked somewhere on line) anything inside the sweep of the wiper blades is not allowed, therefore a potential mot fail.

That said we had a French emission sticker in the bottom right of our screen and was never picked up at mot.

IMHO the tester was being more than a bit picky.

If I remember correctly the Umwelt and Crit Air sticker mounting instructions insist they are mounted INSIDE the sweep of the wipers.
(Mine both are, not failed an MOT yet!)

The MoT test was created long before the abolition of the tax disc so I think you've been dealing with a YTS boy.

Far right corner? Is this as you are looking out? ie on the drivers side? Or do you have a left hand drive van? Sorry just trying to get my head round it.

What about rear view mirror's they are in the normal sweep of the wiper blades you cannot see through then would that be a fail also. I realise that most motorhomes don't have them fitted.

The French crit air should be placed on the inside bottom righthand side looking out. It is so that it is on the side nearest the pavement on French roads.

And a lot have the reversing camera monitor mounted on the mirror mount which makes it even more of an obstruction!

The mot place didn’t want the job or the op got the yts person

In practice, the annual test will check that items placed in or stuck to the windscreen or surface damage, cracks or discolouration in the windscreen do not seriously obscure the vision of the driver

"Not seriously obscure" I think covers it, MOT man being to pedantic.

I used to do vehicle examinations following fatal accidents.

The coroner would always ask me the same two questions.

The first was, were there any obstructions to the driver’s view? Fluffy dice and scented baubles attracted particular attention.

The other related to if the radio etc was on and if so what setting the volume knob was at.

We had a car fail the MOT because of a small item on the dashboard, they asked me to remove it, and then passed it. The tester told me they needed a fail to balance the pass rate.

pparently ( and it can be checked somewhere on line) anything inside the sweep of the wiper blades is not allowed, therefore a potential mot fail.
This ^^^^^^^But bottom right of screen on a rhd it would/should be below the bottom of the wiper.

If it is factory ,it is allowed & legal.
Here if you fit a sun strip on the inside it is an instant fail ,whereas a factory top tinted screen is ok & is also the reason I fitted an external sunvisor on the van to prevent being failed as I have been before on other vehicles

Sorry just catching up, right hand drive, bottom right hand as looking out, out of wiper sweep area, technically might obscure view of something small on the pavement at best, thanks for replies 👍

Oldest YTS boy 40 if a day, maybe he was kept back, maybe he was trying to sweeten the fact they cocked up accepting Moho when not able to fit in bay, by saying "you had a lucky escape there!"

On my hymer a class, I had camera in middle bottom below the wiper and it failed Mot, I as why he didn't just remove it,not allowed to sir.
I removed it, he passed it and I refitted the camera.

I have my crit air and German clean air stickers in top right corner of van windscreen ( when viewed from outside) won’t block any view and I would appeal if I got any sort of fine . It’s odd that with crit air the paper copy is enough to prove you have paid , so really don’t think it matters where it is .

Would have thought being French or German it would be on the left ( when viewed from outside) if anywhere.

...The tester told me they needed a fail to balance the pass rate.

Every MoT tester in the land is certain that if they pass too many vehicles then the man from the ministry will magically turn up to do an audit.

With the number of shonky cars on the road I'm not sure they ever need to invent failures to keep their average up.

Ah ok, so not where the tax disk used to be :p That was usually on the other side to the driver.

The French crit air should be placed on the inside bottom righthand side looking out. It is so that it is on the side nearest the pavement on French roads.

On a French vehicle this would then be the opposite side to the driver like the tax disk used to be on our vehicles.

So I suspect the issue is that it is on the drivers side of the windscreen possibly.

I am just guessing here.

Then it is not withing the swept area as would be shown if dirty,If it is cear of the bottom of the wiper then I'd be making a complaint before he started

Attached to windscreen it is a fail , on dash & clear of the windscreen it is a pass.

no closest side to the pavement which is uk Drivers side. so that they do not have to leave the pavement to check

yes.
Here I have my crit air, spanish zbe, german umwelltplakette & my ADAC stickers all on a piece of perspex unattached to the screen This complies .

Back in the day, I also had an MOT fail because the tax disc was within the sweep of the window wipers, plus a few dubious other fails. The next day, without addressing any of the fails, I took it to another MOT station and it passed. So figure that one out.

On another note, I had a left hand drive Hobby and at nine years old, it failed the MOT because the single fog light was on the wrong side. It had previously passed six MOT's with the fog light on the same, wrong side. Sometimes I wonder if they're just fishing for work during quiet periods.

No issue on recent MOT with Critair and Umweltplakette on bottom right of windscreen.

From the drivers seat they should be on the right hand side and therefore don't intrude on the wipers sweep .

Did they ever ask which station the radio was set to?
Some music used to make me drive a little quicker, some used to relax me………maybe too much sometimes!

We bought a Toyota Proace Verso last April and it had a similar history....

Failed in Sept 2022 ......
